I'm not sure if contrition counts so much in tribunal hearings.
One punch is normal in suspensions, so I don't think that provides much benefit.
I've never seen them give a lesser charge because it was a direct opponent or a greater charge because it wasn't.
Needling is part of the game - happens to most players most games, so provocation is not likely to be a defence.
