FFS talk about gutter journalism at it's best. This belongs in the Hun, not The Age.

Why is it gutter journalism? It's not surprising that Staker's parents will have quite strong views on the incident.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Only adding fuel to the fire. If I was Staker, I'd be embarrassed.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

It is clearly the media fishing for a response to fill their paper.

If you were playing an elite sport, you would be happy with your mum coming out in the media and commenting on such incidents?

          I know I wouldn't!

Parents have commented on all sorts of things in the AFL.

Understandable that his mum is upset, but a season ending ban would be just a little too much. I think he deserves around 4 weeks, if he gets anything over 6 it will be ridiculous.

I can't believe the Eagles think he has a case to answer over the incident where Waters went up to Hall to "fly the flag". Whilst I agree with what Waters did, if anything the most you could argue out of his altercation is that Waters was the one at fault.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Hasn't Barry's mum come out in the past to say her son doesn't get free kicks or to say he's just misunderstood?

Parents need to learn to say "no comment". I get that they have every right to be upset, but keep it to yourself. This isn't the school playground.

Staker and any other player can speak for themselves if need be.

I think she told the media to leave him alone after the '06 GF.

If Mr and Mrs Staker haven't seen this sort of thing before then they haven't been to any of their sons games. It happens all the time in under age footy. It is not good but it does happen. A boy from the current NSW Rams was in my sons team 2 years ago (at the time, under 15) got king hit, was unconscious for 1 minute or so and the boy who hit him was sent off for 15 minutes. End of story. I am not entirely sure, but I think the boy who hit him is also in the RAMS now.

Interestingly, Mr Staker is stating 8 to 10 weeks.

One can get carried away with the emotionals of this issue. (Hence the views of Staker's parents are both understandable and irrelevant)

But let's get this in prospective. Hall will have to go for several weeks, no question.

                        However:

                        1. Hall has shown contrition and demonstated public humilation
                        2. It was one punch. (It wasn't that Hall went crazy beyond a single second, constantly punching Staker)
                        3. Staker was Hall direct opponent. (And he consequently wasn't say, an umpire)
                        4. Staker was probably needling Hall. (In other words, it was not completely unproked)
                        5. Staker wasn't seriously injured. (Compare this to a charging incident involving the Kangaroo's Jess Sinclair about 4 years ago)
                        6. Hall has not been suspended for 6 years, a very long time in the career of an AFL footballer.

Overall, if the appropriate range is 6 to 10 weeks, Hall should for the above reasons be given the lower end of that range, being 6 weeks.

Not good enough. I want to know why no-one has asked his nan what she thought.

Even if she's not around the headline "Staker's dead nan would've wanted Barry banned" is right up their alley anyhow.

Ban Hall for season - Staker's family | Herald Sun
