Well....St Kevins does make use of the public playing fields on the other side of the Yarra if that counts - but they are not part of St Kevins

Good luck to Nick. But if I was one of the drafted boys over the last couple of years or one who might be drafted in the next couple of years I would be worried that rookies get more opportunities than the draftees.

I don't really get what your point is here. Surely all players on the list, regardless of rookied or senior listed deserve to be treated on their merits?

Who are the draftees who could possibly feel put out by a rookie getting a game?

Thornton is injured, while Laidlaw played his first game last weekend after a reasonably long lay-off.

White, Faulks and Currie are all talls and were very raw when drafted. For Currie he's really only just started his AFL-listed career properly. They are at different stages of development to Smith and aren't competing for similar roles in the team.

Meredith is injured, and Vezspremi clearly doesn't yet have the endurance for senior football.

So that just leaves DOK and Brabazon who could possibly feel "put out". There is no way known that DOK has done anything at reserves level yet to suggest he's ready for senior football. And while Brabazon works his butt off every week and has made significant strides since he arrived, his disposal skills are a major drawback for him at the moment and he'd have every single person on here holding their heads if he was exposed to the speed and pressure of a game against Geelong.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I don't think the school one went to defines what kind of footy player you'll be.Jarred Moore was another who went to an APS in Melbourne,as did Ted Richards.I did notice that Smith captained his schools footy and cricket teams.
I read where Roosy had brought Nick Smith into the team to play a "Malceski type role" where he can use his much superior pace to hopefully run down the Geelong forwards.I hope he has the strength to hold on to the strong Cat players.
I hope both Smith and his 21 mates have a good game and give the Cats plenty to think about,

That isn't enough to warrant selection.

Smith is doing alright in his first game, 8 disposals so far.

Yeah, he's doing OK. He's looked a little tentative with ball in hand - compared to what I've seen of him previously- but I guess that's not surprising.

Only saw the last two quarters on tv and looked ok. Made a couple of crucial errors- one that really hurt us in the last quarter but I thought he did alright. Not sure Roos should have thrown him in the deep end in such a difficult match, but he will certainly get plenty out of the performance. Certainly did ok I think and wasnt the worst player on the ground for us by a long way.

Of the other young blokes, Jack didnt do so well today but he certainly tried hard and will learn plenty. I'll be interested to see whether he gets Ablett later on in the year when we play them. He got towelled up but he is learning so much every match.
Barlow did alright again, Moore did well (Except for that miss but thats life!) and I thought Bird had his best game yet. I like some of this new young talent that is coming through for us, some very promising signs indeed.
