If you're going to put those three players into the team that beat the Eagles, I reckon you'd probably have to take out Davis, Bird and maybe Barlow in order to keep the balance. That's working on the basis of Mattner moving up to the wing to accomodate Malceski, Teddy or even Leo sometimes being surplus to requirements down back and playing a bit in the forward line, and Fosdike replacing Bird as the mostly outside running role that Bird is currently playing (even though I expect him to become more "inside" as he develops).Comment

And Barlow may be just one breakthrough game away from becoming undroppable. You get the sense he's on the brink of really imposing himself on a game, rather than just the (excellent) cameos he's currently playing. In which case, someone like Monty might have to make way to accomodate Fosdike - and I am not convinced that's necessarily an improvement to the team.Comment

So who goes put in the backline if you leave Bevan in?
Bevan Richards C Bolton
Kennelly LRT Malceski
Where does Barry go? Surely either Barlow (or Davis) are better value in the forward line than Barry?Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Oops. Had forgotten that Davis didn't play against the Eagles. And yes, we have too many in our backline. I still don't think that Bevan would be the one to make way.
A month ago I'd have taken Richards out of the team but his form at the moment is too good.
In reality it's probably not a problem that is ever going to be faced. If or when Malceski is ready, someone else will almost certainly have picked up an injury.Comment

It's a hypothetical. Along the lines of our best side. I don't see Bevan in it until Barry retires.
Barry Richards C Bolton
Kennelly LRT Malceski
Mattner Ablett Jack
ROK Hall Buchanan
Moore MOL McVeigh
Jolly Goodes Kirk
Inter from Everitt, Schmidt, Bird, J Bolton, Fosdike, Davis, Barlow
Is our best side.
No need for Bevan.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

WHAT!!! WHAT!!!! On match day you have been heard to say in these words or similar in a very loud and determined way "god get rid of him, he's useless".
You get on here and sit on the fence. What's goin' on. Your 21, you're a man now, say what you mean.
But then again you have been known to be one who kicks with the wind. In Bevo's case you are having a bit each way (I thought you were a quaddie man) and the wind appears to be going across the ground. See you Sunday for some earnest debate.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

Big call that one. Buchy has been average but not droppable yet IMO, seen a few of those clearances that we know he has been capable of.
I think Buchy and Goodes are in a bit of bind in that they often tagged very heavily at stoppages, and haven't really developed the skill to break those tags. Goodes was often double teamed last week, receiving some pretty heavy treatment, Buchy has been the same, his diminutive stature makes more difficult to pick up.
I'd like to see him in for Moore ATM.Comment

You assume Bevo is just a defender. He's not. He is a defensive utility who can play back, quarterback, mid or up. He would be on the pine in front of Bird, Schmidt and Davis (you're having a laugh right?). The super interchange would be Everitt, Jude, Barlow and Bevo. Height, ticker and skill. Fossie would replace Buchanon who is now a fringe player at best. You obviously have been sleeping down the back of the Bevo Seminar 101 son.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
