Indeed the ball has to clear the line, but for where it hit on the post for it not to have cleared the line more chance of hell freezing over.
Ump was in the best position, but not the first time they have got a call wrong.

I haven't logged in to make a comment for ages but just had to. I was sitting in the left pocket on the fence level 4 and could clearly see that it was a goal. It was not even close to being touched. It pisses me off even more that if it was a victorian team they would be screaming for years over it. We got robbed against the saints and now again.

          Was a goal. Robbed.

...or should we just have kicked straight all through the game...

The AFL will engage the services of Arlen Specter to theoretically prove that such an event can occur. It is know as the "Magic Football Theory".

It was said in the Telegraph this morning that the umpiring department looked at the footage and concluded that the goal umpire was right as the ball deflected from the North players hand and hit the side of the post therefore it could not possibly have been over the line.

WHAT A LOAD OF ABSOLUTE BS.

I don't give a damn what they said, as far as I'm concerned it was a goal and -

                WE WAS ROBBED.

also interesting to note that the field umpire that was in the vicinity of the shot was none other than Scott McClaren (aka: McMoron).

Well it matters not now. We had 19 men on the field and the 19th man was involved in the passage of play leading up to that score. North could argue that we cheated and didn't deserve the point (or goal).

For what it's worth, the AFL has designated White as the 19th man.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

In a game so close, there are literally dozens of if's, but's and maybe's, not just limited to the Kirk behind. Let's move on.

Slightly late for my 2 cents-worth, but never mind ...

I was in aisle 5; just the other side of the player's race. Almost straight line view across the goal line ... and it was clearly a goal for mine!!

But at the end of the day, if we had won, who knows what the AFL might have done re the 19th man in the build up to the goal.

So at the end of the day, 2 points is probably not the end of the world!
