Undoubtedly. Lots of things fell our way in 2005.

Well, you're right in that the Cats and the Saints and West Coast all fell in our wake.

Or are people here predicting a Cats dynasty? So far, the Cats have achieved almost as much as the Swans did - they turned around a crap year and won the premiership. They'll achieve as much as the Swans if they play in this year's Grand Final - and will better the Swans if they win it. But that's still a long way off.

The only premiership team this century that is better than any other is the Lions, simply because they won three premierships whereas the rest of us have won one apiece.

So are you devaluing our premiership

Or does Roos just peddle that bull@@@@ to inflate his own worth? Seriously, no other side has a dual Brownlow medalist. Hall was, and still could be, one of the elite forwards of the game. Tadhg Kennelly and Craig Bolton have, over the last couple of years become genuinely top tier players. Ryan O'Keefe and MOL are not far behind. I still cannot really see why, but Kirk is considered by many (including opposition players) to be a genuinely premier midfielder. Ball and Williams were genuine champions in the 2005 side (as was Schauble). Leo Barry, while never likely to make a team of the century had a couple of outstanding seasons. Beyond them we had a very even side, with some important contributions from Buchanan, Schneider, Davis, Crouch and others but generally a contingent bottom 6 - 8 players that were possibly better (at least more consistent) than any other bottom 6 - 8 over 2005-2006. Our midfield was very different to Brisbane's "Fab 4", the midfiled built around Cousins, Judd and Kerr, or Geelong's talented line up - but it was not useless.

I guess I just don't buy the whole blue-collar bulldust, and the line that Roos is a genius, without whom we would still be waiting for a premiership. It vastly undersells the contributions of the players.

It's not about devaluing it. Some years there are no real dominant teams that stand about above the rest, especially in finals, or teams have a bit of extra luck. eg: 06, 05, 99, 98, 97, 93, 90. Arguably 04 was the same as the Lions looked really did look tired and sore at the end, but Port had been pretty impressive in H&A for the previous few years, just not finals, so either way.

                Where did I say that?

                Was the premiership earned? Absolutely
Did we have some luck on the way? Of course. (Most premiership teams do)
Does that luck devalue a premiership? NO

My point was that one of those pieces of luck is that we didn't run into the Lions or Geelong at their best.

                    It's all been football talk.

So what do you want to contribute on the football side?

Nothing in your post discusses football. On the other hand, my post above is all about football, and about how good many of the Swans players are. Not that he needs defending, but Bloods' posts here are all about football.

A GF comes down to 2 sets of 22 players on the day
The way our players harassed the classy WCE eagle midfielders in the 2005 I think the 2005 Swans could of caused an upset..........!

I have no doubt that we would have created a decent contest. Most premiership teams are theoretically capable of challenging another and causing an upset. Some are simply better though and would be expected to win.

I don't really get the Roos bashing. He's an excellent people person, considered an innovator by people I've spoken to within the AFL system and a good bloke to boot.

i think roos should be as accountable as the players are (not to harp on it but he makes davis pretty accountable)

we are a better side then the rubbish we have dished up at the dome this year and the game plan doesnt encourage the team to develop any flair or skill.

what roos did in 2005 whilst great is irrelevant, we cannot be about that one flag, we have to be striving for the next one and have a plan in mind as to how we can possibly get it. Playing people like bolton in his current form and trying to strangle good teams and keep them to low scores doesnt seem to me at least, to be leading to any premiership development.

Its all good and well to pick the young guys but what difference does it make if they are asked to stand around in the opposition backline creating stoppages all day
Theres not much left to say
