What's the point of being a good tackler if you never get to the ball first? The same applies to forwards who constantly get balls kicked over their heads or at their feet.

The priority for our forward line (and therefore those who kick it to them and the coaches who work out the structure) should be scoreboard pressure, not defensive pressure.
My own theory for what its worth is that Davo's career has been on the downslide for three reasons:
      1. The style of game has changed where forwards are expected to hold the ball in the forward line if they can't score to prevent quick rebounding. This was a direct response to Paul Roos structure of fast rebounding out of the backline in 05 with Kenneally and Barry.
      2. The retirement of Paul Williams. We still miss his pace, breaking the lines and his immaculate long kicking to leading forwards. We just haven't replaced him with a player of his foot skills. Maybe the Eski will develop into that player.
      3. The retirement of Jason Ball and the loss of his sublime palming skills in the forward line. Jolly is OK but Ball was brilliant. Maybe is Spider gets back it will help Davis back into some form as he is at his best kicking instinctively

And furthermore never publicly criticise him because it may affect his self confidence. Way to go. Why not just call the club the Nick Davis Football Club. With a fried chicken as mascot.
        Siriusly!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Unfortunately it may be the case that public criticism is the only way to motivate Our Lovable NickyD?

That almost qualifies as faint praise!

At the Swans though it appears there is a fine line between "kicking instinctively" and breaking team rules. (of course without Davo's kicking insticts there would not have been a premiership medal in '05).

The praise will be as strong as the criticism when he put his head over it and becomes the player he could be.

Davis getting dropped for about a month to the magoo's is wrong.

Just imagine if he had of kicked those 2 goals from the pockets, none of us would have been discussing Nicky boy right now.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Just imagine if Jude Bolton had managed to score with either of his two shots as well.

                            He promised that last week

Keep it up Connolly, it always worries methat we will end up like Collingwood, who recruit players like Davis & Thomas for style points, not because they are effective competitive footballers

                            It's pandering to peanut supporters

It's why I love Roosy for dumping Schneider

That's a bizarre comment about one of the best players in the AFL. You'd be the only Swans supporter who WOULDN'T like to see Thomas at the club.
