Everitt & Playfair possibly for White & Davis

Official AFL Website of the Sydney Swans > News Article > Everitt set for senior return

Jesse White, who made his debut against North Melbourne last weekend, and forward Nick Davis will make way for the pair, with Roos expecting Davis to get a boost of required confidence in the reserves.

"Nick is struggling to perform so we need to get him to find some form," he said. "You'd like to see him have a good solid month and so when he comes in, he comes with some solid form behind him.

"And Jesse did a good job last week. It's a little disappointing because I don't like to play kids for one week. But I think they understand it and give them a chance to mentally atune to AFL footy."
Much more positive comment from Roos on Davis! Let's see how it transpires.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Playfair goes, but I'm disappointed White didn't get a few more weeks.

Roos also confirmed that suspended spearhead Barry Hall will help out the forwards at training this week. The club's leadership group met with Hall yesterday and had a "frank" discussion with him regarding his seven-week penalty for striking.

"They made it pretty clear they want him to stay in the leadership group," Roos said. "So it's a good decision from them. Obviously they told him to do everything possible to come back a better player and work out why he did it."
(Malceski is) continuing to build for, hopefully, a return to footy around round eight or nine

So Hally's back from Fiji, welcom back to the real world Hally.

Gee i wonder if privately he's been having a laugh over staker getting reported for striking.

IMO Spida and Playfair back into the side is a big mistake,it should be either one or the other.

Playfair will defenitley play this week.Wasnt he the ruckman up against Ball in the "05" semi against Geelong when Ball tapped it down to Davo for the wining goal.

Lets hope he learnt a bit and taps it straight down to our runners when he gets the chance.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Possibly true, but we're not a big side so it shouldn't unbalance us too much.

      Cam Mooney IIRC.

Meh, I could live without Everitt in the side. For somebody so experienced he made appalling decisions in tight games last season.

I don't know how carving up some kids in the Canberra league is going to get Davis some confidence and form, given that dropping him is what cost him that confidence and form in the first place.

Definitely young Playfair against the old pro Ball, but I am just wondering why the Swans continuously telegraph their team changes to the opposition early in the week?

Meh - typical. You asked a question and I gave you my recollection.

I can barely even remember Playfair that game. I just recall Ball dominating a smaller Geelong opponent and Mooney at the centre bounce, and tend to conflate the two. Obviously IRI.

Not convinced about bringing Everitt and Playfair back at the same time when both will be relatively underdone. And especially not against the Bulldogs, the one team you can't afford to lack mobility against.

Tough call on White, though I think it's unreasonable to expect him to be able to come in at the very start of his career and be that dominant tall presence that the forward line is screaming out for. Particularly as he's spent most of this year playing in defence in the twos.

I think I'd prefer them to bring just one of Playfair or Everitt in and use them predominantly as a forward target, and give White one more game as a back-up ruckman. Send him forward for brief periods but don't expect him to be the primary target.

If he does get dropped this week, I hope for White's sake he gets plenty more senior games in the future or his career could become the stuff of trivia competitions. Regardless of whether the mistake was predominantly his or the interchange steward was culpable, I feel a bit sorry for him being made the public scapegoat in all of this.

Bulldogs pre 08 yes, but if you actually look at their team at present they have gone taller this year along with losing some pace in the midfield with Cross & Hahn.

They are much taller and bigger bodied team this year, still have good pace but it't not their main weapon as per previous years.

Make no mistake, Eade has set his team to play inside accountable football this year and what better way to show the rest of the football world against us, a team he would deem one of the best at it.

I'm not convinced with the idea of bringing in Playfair after only 1 week in the magoos over White.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

By the look of Roos comments, I suspect White was fully aware that this was only a small taste of senior football and that he was always going to be replaced this week by Spider (barring injuries).

This has been used by coaches plenty of times to show players on the cusp of senior football what they need to do play seniors regularly. White has now expeirenced football at senior level and will now understand what he needs to do to make it.

I was wondering that too, given it was a hammy injury, you'd think at least another week or 2 in the 2's. But hey, we're not the coach!!

How can they possibly bring him in after only the one week in the reserves? It's not as if he's a worldbeater.

I'd even be reluctant to bring Everitt in after two matches.
