Playfair is underdone and unproven at the level. Happy to give him a chance, but would've thought a couple more matches in the seconds would be the go.

Mathews isn't in our best 22, but plays a similar role to Ablett so I can at least see why he has come in.

I can't see the point in bringing in two big blokes who are both underdone - especially against the 'Dogs.
The only reasoning why I think that they've brought two big men in, is that they're going to play one of them in the forward line, or maybe rotate the both them, from forward to ruck.

Ben Mathews, I do not know why he is in the side, it is better to bring in Nick Smith in my opinion. Play the kids!

It's not as if Roos is setting the bar very high for Playfair:

?We just want him to be competitive, to mark, bring the ball to ground, chase and tackle and if he does that, and he doesn't kick a goal then he's still fulfilled my requirements."

I don't mind these ins and outs. Playfair, I would have probably preferred if he'd had another week at least in the reserves, and we played White forward, but I don't think it's too big an issue.

Everitt coming in, well, let's face it, we need him. Even if he's only 90%, I reckon he should still be in the side, because White isn't that much better than LRT in the ruck, at least not yet.

And Matthews, well, I think this is going to be his role this year; if Ablett, Kirk or Jack gets injured, he comes in, and when they're back, he makes way. I like his inclusion, because while he isn't in our best 22 generally speaking, he is our best replacement for Ablett. Smith COULD have come in instead, but given that we've actually made a decent start to this season, a top 4 spot is very much in the picture, so I think we should be playing our best 22 each week, and Matthews is slightly ahead of Smith, if you ask me. Smith obviously has more of a future, but it isn't much use blooding youngsters that aren't in our best 22 when we are an outside chance of a flag.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

Playfair is replacing Hall/Davis, Matthews replacing Ablett, 2nd ruck had to be fitted in when fit. It is ironic is this the most talls we have fielded in years against one of the leagues shorter, faster outfits. with Jolly, Everitt, Playfair and LRT?

My heart hopes Playfair has great debut but my head keeps telling me it will be a Paul Chambers repeat. I think that was his name from Geelong.

You mean old slow legs. I just dont get bringing back slowness into the side when the obvious upside to us in 2008 is the freshness brought about young players. I would have gone for Smith.

Bulldogs are taller, slower and more physical this year and seem all the better for it.

@@@@ing ridiculous by Roos but consistent with how Bloods football is measured.

Can someone explain what Henry Playfair brings to table that Jesse White does not? I am struggling to understand this one, but then I struggled to understand why Playfair was drafted in the first place. After 50 games of footy, I think Geelong knew he was not good enough and was pleased to offload him.

I am happy to be proven wrong...but I don't think I will be.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
