That is the sort of thing we need to see more of.

Roos certainly doesn't have the balls to stand up for what he believes in like that.
Which is why he's stood up for Hall on numerous occasions.

The situation comes up quite a bit...... loose ball on the ground, two players going at it, clear intent is to extract the footy while keeping their feet allowing an effective disposal once in possession. At the last split second it's clear one player is going to get there first and the opposition player has to change his path to avoid head high contact, which of course he can't do because he is already so committed. Head high contact ensues, tribunal, etc. etc.

If the opposition players pulls right out of the contest he feel the wrath of the coach, he could hang right back and then put a hard legal tackle on once the player gains possession (notice a lot of players doing this now) but shouldn't the ball be the object????
As I understand it you are wrong in that the player WENT OFF THE LINE TO TAKE OUT THE OPPONENT. and Williams was angry BECAUSE his player was "following instruction."

what if I'm running backwards to adjust my position, and ROKlobster bends down to do up his shoelaces and I run in to his head?

This was the wrong decision. It was a ridiculous decision. But the AFL do have it right on head high contact. Free kick was all it deserved.

Don't quite understand you there.....if it's worthy of a free kick, but knocks the player unconscious, then that would make it worthy of a report - surely!

A player has gone off the line, played the man not the ball, contacted to the head and knocked him unconscious....I'm struggling to see how anyone could complain about a suspension in these circumstances.

Don't reckon he 'played the man'. The ball was within 5 metres and all he did was turn his body.

Roll your eyes all you like, but Roos would never stand up for Hall like that.
It's all innuendo, stealth comments and implications, all said with a smug curl of the lip.
Which is fine, and probably the correct way to go about things, but he has never shown that sort of passion in defense of a player that Williams did.
