    Craig Bird

How long can you be a liability before you are dropped.

Yes, he's part of the new youth we're introducing but his constant mistakes aren't up to the level required.

    A bit harsh.

Yes, he did not play well today but that is the inconsistency you get with youngsters. Has had a good season thus far.

Perhaps a spell in the reserves for a few weeks may not be that bad for him.
    Swannies for life!

I thought his tackling pressure was pretty good. Caused a couple of notable turnovers. Four tackles from limited game time isn't a bad return.
And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .

Stupid comment is my first thought.

Bird did some good things today. certainly enough to keep his place in the team.

he is struggling a bit disposal wise but his tackling is good and all round effort cant be faulted. I really do think he is going to click here sooner or later (Like it looks like Moore has).

To be honest, Id prefer to see Bird stay in there then Ben Matthews get another game! (Granted they are different sorts of players but Im sure you get my point!). Perhaps he does need a couple of weeks in the reserves but Id like to see us stick by him. I would like to see Fosdike find a spot in the team here sooner or later.

On another note, was pleased with Schmidt today. Held his nerves well to kick that crucial goal and also did a few good things. Looks to me like he has bulked up a bit as well. Good to see him back!

I'd forgotten how good his hands were in a marking contest.

Yep, he didn't get a lot of possessions but how about his super hard work close in the desperate last minutes of the 3rd Q. It was very tough in close and twice he almost got clear for snaps when under svere pressure. His hands are quick and he gets where the ball is at most times.

He is best described as where Moore was this time last year.

                Where have you been

Has been fairly solid most games and very good last week against similar sized bodys in Essendon. The kids only 18 and he has been serviceable.
Sure he wasnt great today and possibly may need a rest from the big stuff though he hasnt been a liability !!

I think he's probably been the weakest of the players to be introduced. That's not really harsh criticism given his youth and inexperience. He's shown some decent signs, but wouldn't be missed at all if he was dropped.

Bird was absolutely fantastic last week, and, although admittedly I'm only going off seeing about 25 minutes of gameplay in total and reading the GameDay Live stats, it looks as though he tagged Rodan out of the game. I'm pissed off I picked him ahead of Jack in SC this week, but he certainly isn't at the point of being dropped yet.

I agree, he did plenty of good things, his work around packs and stoppages is excellent. He wins a lot of hard ball for a 19 year old, and applies good pressure. His disposal will pick up and I reckon he is going to be a gun.

I'm with donners on this one. he isn't quite there yet but that really is about experience. i think if fosdike gets going he would be the one to get dropped. on the other hand if someone else was going great guns in ressies then they should also be looked at

I think that might be fair, but I'd actually add to it he is the one I am most excited about- given note just his youth and experience but also the role he is playing. His work in close is phenomenal, Kirk is a clearance machine but his skills let him down at times and a lot of his clearances are simply "getting it out of the congestion",Jude can get to the bottom of the pack alright but does that just by, well, getting to the bottom of the pack and rarely gets it out neatly (maybe a quick slam on the boot), Ablett just throws it on his boot without looking up (he seems to do that frequently when he has lots of time anyway so that might just be a crazy quirk?)... Bird CONSISTENTLY keeps his feet, finds room in packs and gets out quality disposals to a guy THAT ISN'T JUST THE GUY STANDING NEXT TO HIM WHO WILL BE IMMEDIATELY TACKLED.

He didn't play well yesterday, he played well the week before. At some point he'll probably have a run in the magoos.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Are we in the enviable position of giving some of the youngsters time in the 2s - not because they are "dropped", but because the season is just too long for them to go flat chat throughout.

A rotation of a couple of weeks in Magoos to freshen up, and work on some new developments, seems a good way to go.

I'd say we almost are at that stage. Look at the players who didn't play yesterday who could easily be considered in our best 22 (depending on your perspective)

                              Hall
                              Davis
                              Barlow
                              Fosdike
                              Kennelly

                              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
