That was a crazy, crazy, crazy game. I'm suprised we got away with the win, I don't know if West Coast just went out too hard too early and didn't have the legs in the final quarter- almost all our goals in the final quarter were relatively fortunate from breeakdowns in play/poor structure from West Coast (even Mal's out on the full came after he was left all alone).

I don't know what was luckier, Jude's free kick or that he actually kicked straight. Good on him, though- you could tell he looked like he thought he'd just won the GF
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

As Wikipedia defines it - and as I always understood it - this phrase means that someone is "enjoying a period of outstanding achievement". This usage is particularly common in sporting contexts: for example, a footballer who had scored in six successive games might be said to be "enjoying a purple patch".

That is what you meant .. isn't it?

I was convinced he would kick a point at best. But a good kick and an outstanding goal celebration! Geez Eagles it must hurt to lose like that!

Was hanging out for reply no. 500 but might fall short, like WCE.
Not sure we deserved to win....

A Fremantle Purple Patch would better describe Leo's performance.

An awesome come from behind win. This morning I think my heart is still beating faster. Great to be winning some close ones again. Even though we were diabolical up to half time you just keep expecting us to come back and so we did. To actually win though, from a 37 point deficit, is the stuff of a very good football team. Well done Sydney. With so many ump decisions going the Evils way, to win with a free kick against the most despised Evils player of them all, was so sweet. All those missed set shots by Jude in the past are now totally forgiven. Jude Bolton is officially The Sydney Swans Hero of the Week.

What was it with the biased commentary last night?

It was a bit odd, biased commentary is usually the case for the games from Subi but I thought they started with a relatively impartial commentary team (bar Jakovich) in the booth. I think the highlight for me was an Eagle (I believe Kerr?) being tackled and dropping the ball, then soccering it and then having the tackling Swan (Bevan?) slip down to his ankles... I thought it was clear as day that he dropped the ball whilst being tackled, but one of the commentators (and I don't think it was Jakovich) was screaming "LEGGED!".

I really don't take much notice of the biased commentary. They're broadcasting to a Perth audience as it's a home game and it's come to be expected - actually brings a bit of light to the way the game is called I think. It's nearly impossible to call games right down the middle and Cometti would probably be the closest you get to that and even he at times is guilty of showing some bias.

How true is that? Walking out of Subi last night a couple of "female" Wiggles supporters (ok, they were she-men....but moving right along) were bagging us. I told them to enjoy that wooden spoon this year....no further comment from said Wiggles supporters. Some other drunk knobhead Weazle was yelling at us, saying the Swans were scared of WCE. Don't know how he came to that conclusion, but anyway, after offering him another beer (coz clearly he had not had enough) someone told him sarcastically that we must be really scared of the Eagles to sitting 5th on the ladder with the best percentage in the league. Classic comment!!
I might have a slight drinking problem. My husband asked me to toast some bread for him...so I raised my wine glass and said "Here's to bread!"

I remember that! Should have been a free to Sydney. Who was the commentator?

It was probably Dwayne "The West Coast" Russell.

I forgot about that one, great work from both. LRT is not too shabby running on the wing.

Now, now, let's not get carried away here. While I was expecting Jude's shot to go at right angles off his boot OOBOTF, I too began to think poorly of myself for bagging him as the team's worst kick... But then I remembered his kicking in the 2006 GF and the reasons for my previous view all came flooding back....
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

I agree Swan Song. Two set shots at goal in the 1st quarter of the 06 GF and missed. Let's not forget a couple of nasty ones that went OOBOTF at the Dome...was it against the Roos??
I didn't watch his kick last night tho. Too bloody nervous. Can't wait for the replay on Tuesday.
