Yep. There's a selection of gifted, well informed, up to date, educated, professional commentators....

Most of them, if not all of them, anti-Swans apart from Jimmy Main of course.

I have to agree. It is as if they feel they are the only ones who have the right to pass comment because they are paid for it. Well, in this day & age anyone can pass comment Mr Main. And in this day & age people tend to be far far more explicit online than they'd ever be face to face or even in a newspaper column where arguments at least in theory have to be thought-out & well resourced.

I don't want to go all out & bag Jim Main as he has been a loyal supporter of the Swans on Inside Football, and trolled South Australians in his column page before trolling probably even became a word (which led to the CS president of the time making a "Jim Main Fan Club" fence banner at Football Park when we played the Crows once). But he seriously has to realise that the internet is akin to what people are thinking. You read those game threads & you see how much of an emotional rollercoaster they are. They are bringing out supporters' feelings & emotions in a new raw way. And sometimes things get too intense & the criticisms go overboard.

But saying we can't pass comment on players as bad as Ben Matthews just because they won a premiership is a complete cop-out. I'll be there supporting them most weeks. But if they stuff up I have a new medium in which to vent my fury. Which is probably why people appear negative on here. Because they vent more when they are unhappy or angry.

It is time that Jim Main accepted that others are allowed to pass comment on their teams these days. He should consider himself lucky he can earn a living doing what many of us do for free on here, commenting on football.

So what makes Jim think he has a clue, or knows more than the average supporter. Sounds like he would be happy to have no radio talk back on footy so people can read the sterile rag that he writes for. He conveniently forgets that the supporters make the game, but then again he does belong to that wonderful group people called reporters who think that without them the game wouldn't exist.

I didn't even know this nobody reporter even had a gig.
Have a look at the luminaries he lines up with every week. Strewth not an IQ between a few of them and a couple I have never heard of. Hardly in elite company. Main is a third grade writer and always has been.

Clearly after reading that and without even reading any of his articles he is not capable of any sort of critical analysis. From what he says about the 3 players he names he is quite happy for them to keep getting a game regardless of how bad the team is going. You were brought up on a diet of mediocrity as a South supporter Jimmy and clearly haven't changed.

He is clearly currying favour with the Sydney Swans Football Club.

This article is from a man who co wrote the first encyclopedia of footballers that had more holes in it than a swiss cheese.

I suspect when logged on he read one of my posts bagging him and his encyclopedia.

I mightn't always agree with Main, but the bloke loves the Swans.I hate a lot of the footy media, like Schwartz,Lane(BOTH) and Walls at least he sticks up for us,his column and letters is like a blog forum.
What really bugged me about your post Nico and your entitled to your opinion like anybody else, but your line that says(you were brought up on a diet of mediocrity as a SOUTH supporter) shows no respect to SOUTH MELBOURNE.regardless of what Main thinks.
There are people on here from both states, that is one of the strengths of our club.

Truth is Bedford, and I mean this as fact not rudeness or a lack of respect, the Swans were a mediocre football team for a very long time before moving to Sydney. However, since 1996 we have been one of the AFL powerhouses and hopefully will remain so forever.

I have followed them all my life and for most part have had plenty of respect for the Club and loved them both in Melbourne and Sydney. I just tired over the years of getting flogged and putting up with complete and utter mediocrity. Main's comments about not potting the "boys" smacks of inherent mediocrity. You clearly read something between the lines that doesn't exist.

By the way apart from some light hearted barbs in posts some years ago about Melbourne and Sydney Swans supporters, I have always said that is now one of the strengths of our club and more so of late because of the wild conspiracy theories going around about so call favours to Sydney. If there was divisions in the past they dont exist now.

Strange that Main didn't highlight the many positive posts that get written on RWO. I guess that just doesn't suit his rant.

Tell that to Bob Skilton and by the way if it wasn't for the AFL ther wouldn't be a Sydney Swans.
When we play in Melbourne there is massive support from the old Bloods fans and one's like me have the children following us as Sydney not another club we are one club!

And just remember Cruiser WE were mediocre at times since we moved up north,at times i felt i would have no club.

Read his peice, Thought it really was a very unbalanced view of the supporters world.

It's surprising he can't find anything positive, entertaining, hilarious or illuminating on footy blogging, and specifically RWO.

Because most of us are writing without a true byline, that is using nicknames it does free up our 'licence' to write more or less what we think a the time, and so there is a duty of care.

I haven't been blogging on here for long, but have found most fellow bloggers do not cross the line too often. It gets a bit annoying when some use it for simply 'chatting' inanely to each other when they could do that by private email to each other or whatever u call it.

As fans, we here on RWO do talk about a lot of stuff we dont have inside information on, and fall for a number of conspiracy theories, and half thuths.

Thats because we love talking footy, and we can only form opinions on the information we are given. The information we are given is what the club, and traditional media put out.

If the club, AFL, and media filter our informations sources, then RWO/Bigfooty is what you get. Its simply a reflection of what your average fans are thinking on or off the internet.

FWIW, I almost never buy Footy Record anymore (if its still called that). Traditional magazine style media is hopelessly out of date compared to the internet.

In Jims world we should all just sit in our seats , sip our chardonnay and cappucinos (we are Sydney fans after all!!) and politely clap the players no matter what happens.

After the game , we shouldnt provide an opinion but instead read the paper the next day and expert journalists such as Jim ( I say that very loosely) tell us how each team played and how the players are going.

Jolly good chaps , please pass me another cucumber sandwich.
