Currie and Schmidt definitely don't belong on that list!

Schmidt's been unlucky with injury this season as 2008 was supposed to consolidate his excellent year last year.

I think Barry would be better off retiring after recent weeks, though really we don't have a ready-made replacement. Presumably next season will be a transitional year.

Mathews, Crouch and Everitt should be our minimum three to go. I think there will be a real reluctance to let young players go with drafts being crippled in the next few years. I'd expect Brabazon to be most vulnerable given his age and time on the list.

Is there any word on whether O'Loughlin will play on next season? He's done well, but perhaps he may choose to go out on a high.

Very timely that the Mattress Man has dug his old "get to the ressies" thread, 'cause from the responses it's pretty obvious there are plenty who don't.

Anybody suggesting that Currie and Faulks should be delisted are obviously spies from other clubs who cannot wait to get their hands on them. They have both been outstanding this year.

Sydney is not a club that engages in mass delistings, with three maybe four retirees this year, this will be especially the case. But if Roos targets a mature player from elsewhere (as has been done nearly every year) then it is likely that any player deemed excess to requirements could be up for trade.

We also cannot discount the possibility of Pebbles being tempted by a big dollar offer from a Melbourne club.

As for delistings, much will depend on our medical staff's assessment of whether Laidlaw's, Thornton's and DOK's bodies are capable of handling the rigours of football. If they get the fitness thumbs down then they will go. I hope not, Laidlaw showed enormous talent last year and we have never seen enough of O'Keefe to know how good he is.

Otherwise, those who get delisted will be the marginal players who currently provide team depth, but are unable to hold a regular first team spot, or break in at all.
Brabazon, Brennan, Grundy and Schmidt come to mind as possible candidates.

Smith and O'Dwyer are the obvious rookie elevations, with Orreal and Murphy to both get another rookie year. Beckmans, Terlich and Bruce will need to do something special in the back half of the season to be retained.

I don't think that would be such a bad outcome for us.

Possible, but in his On The Couch interview he seemed quite genuine in declaring he'd like to captain the club and made a point about the nice weather being attractive to players from other teams.

I am confident he will re-sign on big money and the expectation he will be a future captain.

Doesnt mean he'll be playing on, i'd say 50/50

I don't really want to mention his name, as he is a personal favourite, but does Fosdike have anything left to offer the team? Or has his position been taken by the likes of Bird, Jack and McVeigh?

Probably only McVeigh would be playing the Fosdike-role. Roos has said many times that in the modern game you need as many mid-sized running midfielders as possible, so I don't think we'd be offloading someone with those qualities, particularly given his experience.

                    Some very good informative responses.

My purpose in this posting is basically to put into discussion, supporters thoughts on what will happen next year.

Unfortunately, many of us can't make the reserves each time they play. Especially now that I have two under 7 and live on the Central Coast.

As I'm home this week on IV antibiotics for an infected elbow I've spent more time on the net.

My list was not who I wanted to see go. Rather it was focused on who will very highly likely stay and then working out who is left.

It is a fact that every Club has to draft 3 and that doesn't leave room for promotion.

Spida is still contracted next year. So he will stay otherwise his money stays on the salary cap.

I seriously hadn't thought about player retirements and a serious impact to the draft as the new teams come on board.

I hope to be at the ressies game next Saturday and catch up on how certain players are going, elbow permitting. Otherwise, there for main.

I'll be in red and white if any looks out for me

Don't think he is. When he came to the Swans I believe he said he thought he had at least two good years left in him and on that basis the Swans signed him for two years (after the Hawks wouldn't give him more than one). He said he'd think about a 3rd year when the time came.

More pertinently, there's an article in today's Daily Telegraph talking about the club throwing money at Ryno to get him to resign and that article also mentions that Spida is out of contract at the end of this season. There are quotes from Andrew Ireland so one would expect the article is factually correct.

Yep, Spida is definitely off contract. I'd say his future next year will depend on a) his own body and b) Currie's development and whether he's considered ready for seniors.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spida plays on but only to play about 50% of games - e.g. SCG - leaving Currie to travel and play on the bigger grounds. This not only guarantees Currie some exposure to senior football, but keeps Spida in cotton wool for hopefully a final shot at September.

Otherwise, we'll be short a ruckman and may need to trade for one.

I think retirements will have a lot to do with how we go this season. If we were to win a premiership, you could see all of Mathews, Crouch, Barry, O'Loughlin and Everitt go.

At this stage I'd have Bruce down as a keeper. I think he's played some very promising football and reminds me a lot of O'Keefe. He clearly doesn't have the fitness base of O'Keefe (and nor did O'Keefe have it at that age) but he plays the same "run up and down the ground" game as O'Keefe. He's got a strong build, sufficient pace, plays tall for his size and is a strong overhead mark. Kicking isn't Vezspremi-level elite but it's good enough, he gets good distance and knows how to kick a goal. I can definitely see him playing senior football in the future if the opportunities fall his way.

                              --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                              Final Score was -

                              Sydney 26 - 13 - 169
                              Qbn 15 - 14 - 104

Saw the game and would say the best players on the ground were as follows - Brabazon, Brennan, Grundy, Faulks, Schmidt, Matthews and Vespremi.........

Sorry guys but I didnt think Orreal did much at all, not sure what the person picking the best saw but he was probably beaten on the day. Does some nice tap work but thats pretty much all that was done, dont recall seeing a mark from the lad all day, let alone a disposal by foot.

Brennan kicked 9 and was a constant threat, didnt miss many at all. Got some excellent bullet like passes that no defender could stop.

Brabazon got plenty of ball out of the middle. His work rate with 1, 2 and sometimes 3 efforts was outstanding

Brabazon: One of the best games from Braba I have seen, spoilt only by poor accuracy in front of goal. Normally Braba does not get into the game until late, but this week he did his best work in the first half when the game was up for grabs. Just about BOG at half time, unfortunately not so dominant in the second half.
