I think so too, irrespective of whether you were being an arse or not
Every club will have players that don't work out for whatever reason, whether it's attitude problems, a lack of compatibility with the current coach's game plan, or simply that they couldn't take their game to the next level.
You could make a case for all of the players mentioned in this thread that they were hard done by, I didn't see much of Spriggs but from all reports in 2005 he'd improved his disposal sufficiently to warrant at least getting a couple more games in the seniors, otherwise it's hard to tell without being inside the inner sanctum. Some of it is timing - it's possible that one coach might see something in a particular player that another coach wouldn't, a lot depends on the make-up of the current squad. I was sad to see Schneider go but we probably had too many of his type of player, and at least he had the opportunity to play for another club (and do well), as he does have talent.
I think barry's point (that none of the players mentioned in the OP were picked up by other AFL clubs) is a good one, and suggests that the Swans have generally gotten it right, but they are not perfect.
Re Davis, once again we can only speculate on why exactly he has become a 'failed Blood brother' -- he admitted himself in an article a couple of seasons ago that he 'only just' fit in -- and it's a fair point that we just didn't see enough of what he could do on a consistent basis, but I don't think it's unreasonable for Roos and the Swans' coaching staff to share at least some of the blame for not getting the most out of him.
Was Nick hard done by? Probably a little, I think maybe he suffered a bit from the expectation that comes with being one of the more naturally gifted players in a side better known for being hard-working than talented, personally I got the feeling watching him play that I liked what I saw, just didn't see enough of it. (Except for one particular quarter of course!!
) I hope he gets an opportunity at another club. But I'm certainly sad to see him go.
