Solomons elbow hit was awful to watch and Ling suffered as a consequence.
On the other hand,Halls hit on Staker was a disgrace and he was luckly not be in the courts defending himself.Plenty of other players would have had Hall charged for assault so he was pretty lucky there.
Both players should be ashamed of their actions.

Ah, I saw the game, a replay and all 600 clips of it on TV of course.

What I'm saying is that Staker did no more than what defenders do every week. The original quote was in a tone that implied much more.

On the issue of the OP, I think they are both very different cases.

The issue here is the ramifications of Hall's punch. Unlike League, AFL has cleaned up the full on punch ups that you get in League through a zero tolerance policy. Regardless of severity or intent, the tribunal must come down on these situations in the harshest possible way.

There IS no interpretation other than that. You can't compare the two incidents because the basis for how the penalties are applied has evolved from two different places.

I've reassessed my opinion on this.

I think both acts were the same.
They both struck with intent.

BUT

One was (at least more obviously) provoked.
And one cased significant injury.

If Hall got 7, then Solomon should have been given probably 10

Solomon's was far more worse than Barry Hall's, where there was no damage to Brent Staker, Cameron Ling suffered a factured cheekbone in which Solomon elbowed him was a low act of stupidity.

Reason: 95KG at full speed intentionally using elbow as a weapon vs Barry chucking a a blind punch that was probably meant to scare Staker (but instead put him to sleep on his feet)

Both were wrong, but Solomon far more dangerous, and not reactionary, but planned!
