    The Judd 50 metre penalty

With all the attention of the win against Carlton, as well as the injuries to Micky O and Leo Barry, let's not lose sight of that 50 metre penalty awarded to Chris Judd that resulted in a Blues goal at a critical time in the game.

I have been following AFL for a number of years now, and I would regard it as at least ONE the worst umpiring decisons I have ever seen, certainly up their with the free kick against Leo Barry in the West Coast QF in 2005 at Subi.

And the thought of Carlton winning the game by less than 6 points......I just can't think about it. It certainly would have been subject to much discussion in the media for the days ahead.

Could any person with an umpiring background put me in my place, and submit that there was SOME merit to the decision.

I think the 50m penalty was against Richards for not giving the ball back. If that's the case, then the penalty was legitimate (Albeit pedantic). Ted put the ball down on the ground instead of throwing it back to Judd after he had been awarded the free. Though mind you, why we didn't get one back our way when a Carlton player threw the ball back over Bevan's (?) head after eceiving a free I'll never know.....

But don't quote me on any of this..

The free kick was an absolute shocker - terrible decision.

I was at the game and thought the intitial free kick was incorrect. Don't know about the 50.

who knows what they were thinking with that decision. If it was a 50 for not getting the ball back quickly enough what about the one at one stage where the carlton player threw it 10 metres over the swans players head!

Don't get upset about the 50, that free kick for in the back was a disgrace.

Single worst decision against us since that howler against Leo in 2005 at Subi.

The MMM commentary team called it,"a champion of the game free kick".

I dont know how it was a free kick, they showed a replay of it at the game and Judd was rolled onto his side.

It's little Ray Chamberlain, useless as they come.

I'm assuming the 50m penalty was similar to one given against Goodes after he dropped the ball in front of a Kangas player at Manuka a couple of years back that resulted in a Kangas goal. If that's what happened today, then it's a disgrace of a rule.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

Actually, it didn't take us long to surmise that there must be something wrong with Goodes today as he failed to chase and tackle at least 3 times, when not far from an opponent.

So disappointed would be a better description, however, he did kick some crucial goals.

The free kick to Judd in the first place was the problem - was a disgrace. Definitely not in the back and that is what it was paid for. Also a free kick given to Fev right in the goalsquare that looked very iffy...can anyone tell me if that was actually there???

I'm positive it was the 2nd quarter. Carlton were kicking left to the screen.

The 50m penalty was justified but not the initial free.
