Bevo didn't even have to prop. If he just stayed put it still would of gone 4 metres over his head.

Not according to Liam Pickering (I think it was) on the radio commentary who claimed after an unpaid free to Judd before half-time that champions such as Judd are required to work harder for their free kicks. Some insight Liam.

I seem to also recall Judd dropping the ball cold very late in the game during Carlton's surge and no free being paid. Seconds later Betts ran thru to kick a goal. Judd's a great player that doesn't need any kind of help I would have thought.

Judd gets less free kicks per game than J Bolton or Kirk.

Yeah, but that's because he is 4 times quicker than them over 10 metres so people struggle to get a touch on him so as to give away a free kick. A major flaw in his game.

It's the frees that should be paid against him that aren't that annoy me. One example, is that he is allowed a lot longer to dispose of the ball when tackled. Commentators often dsicuss players being swung through a full 360 degrees and being pinged for HTB. That rarely, if ever happens when the same thing is done to Judd.

I think he is good enough that he doesn't need to be looked after by umpires, but it's a bit like some forwards are rarely paid free kicks because of their reputations. Even Geischen has allegedly agreed that this happens, that different players are treated differently.

Undoubtedly Judd gets more time than many others, but to some extent that is true of many players considered to usually play the ball (eg: Goodes gets more time than Ablett).

I'm sure many people would say the same about Barry Hall (if not now certainly over the last few years).

I actually reckon something changed at half-time, I know because I was yelling at the TV about the free kicks in the first half (and I wrote it down 21-6 favouring the Blues). There were rubbish decisions all over the place.

Maybe the Geish got on the phone to little Ray at the break and told him that he was creating "unwanted attention" to the free kick count.

I dont know why we didnt get fifty when that throw back to Bev went 5 metres over his head

That was as blatant as it gets and even Carlton supporters thought it should have been 50. They can get away with that but even dispute a decision without any malice and it is instant.

The 50 metre rule was brought to stop those deliberate, errant throws and rolling it along the ground to waste time. Was it Ted Richards who put the ball on ground for 50 metre penalty. There are many times when these infringements happen and not one of 3 umpires pick it up, so it makes one think they see that on the lower end of the time wasting scale.

You would expect that umpire to get a decent pull through for such a poor miss.

In defence of Judd he is a master at getting or keeping his arms free and his upper body strength is such that when tackled he seems to be able to reef his arms free.

This means that in many cases he is able to get off a legitmate disposal, sure sometimes it seems like an eternity, whereas other players have only 1 free arm and either let it go or use a throwing motion.

How many of Bolton's and Kirk's are holding the ball frees? Probably an absolute @@@@load. A direct free-to-free comparison isn't really appropriate, as they are completely different players who win their frees in completely different ways.

It was a reference to players having to work hard for frees and not being given them only because of their name.
