You know what i would like to see, a game were Goodes plays a the first quarter in the ruck, the second quarter in the forward line, the third quarter down in the backline and the last quarter on the ball(midfielder)......and blitz.
Adam Goodes and the best player in the AFL debate

On the topic of Franklin, those that say he isn't the best forward in the competition this year because his kicking is poor are using incredibly flawed logic. The fact is, he is still kicking enough goals. Who cares how many shots he takes to kick them? He has the ability to win those shots at goal in the first place. His kicking is poor.He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

Not really the point.
He played a great game, kick straight and the norm smith was his (although probably not with Judd on the field). Point is, he didn't win it, because he didn't have a great game despite all his shots on goal.He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

There is a big difference between O'Loughlin's 6 shots and Buddy's 16 shots per game."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Having 16 shots on goal and spraying them everywhere is not the mark of a "great player".He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

Compare Buddy's output per game to O'Loughlin's output in that game. Then you'll find your answer. It isn't that difficult a concept to get. Buddy kicks more goals. His efficiency is poor, but his ball winning ability means that even with his poor efficiency, he is still the most effective forward in the competition.
You are treating accuracy as if it is the be all and end all of how good a forward is. Accuracy is just one factor. Buddy falls down in that area, but he picks himself waaaaay back up in others. Imagine how good he would be if he kicked at 75%. He averages 8.4 scoring shots per game this year. That would mean an average of 6.3 goals a game. That isn't just the best forward in the competition, that's almost the best forward (over a single season) of all time, when you take into account his average of 16 disposals and 6.6 marks per game.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

In a low scoring game, O'Loughlin had 6 shots on goal for one goal. He was EASILY the dominant forward on the field apart from the fact he had next to no impact. It's the same scenario, and also - I'd suggest not one that should be too difficult to grasp(despite your waning faith in humanity).
Buddy is a top player and I'd love to have him at the swans. But if he has 15 shots on goal and only kicks 3, that is not a great game. Neither is it consistent. That is 12 missed shots on goal. His kicking is on and off. To group him with great players on the back of his averages, is not accurate either. His peaks and troughs are as good as anyone elses.
He doesn't kick at 75%, and I wouldn't think he'd need to kick that high to be considered a great player. Without looking it up, I would guess he'd struggle to kick at more than 45%, and that wouldn't take into account the ones that either don't make the distance or go out on the full. If the discussion was based on potential to be a great player, I think we'd be agreeing. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

It's a very strange analogy for you to be making."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

If you want to say Franklin has a great game when he misses 12 shots on goal, then that's fine. I dont agree.
If you say Franklin has a great game because he could have kicked 15 goals, then I say O'Loughlin had a great game by earning 6 shots on goal in 05. I dont think either point is true.He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

Industrial Fan, you really don't get this, do you?
If Franklin misses 8 shots on goal, but still kicks 8, then he is still the dominant forward. The difference between O'Loughlin in the GF and Franklin is that while Franklin misses a lot of shots on goal, he also kicks a lot. O'Loughlin wasn't the dominant forward in the GF, because he didn't have any real impact, because he missed his shots. Franklin has an impact, because even though he misses a lot of goals, he is so good at getting shots at goal that he doesn't need to take every opportunity to still kick 8 goals in a match.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

Adam Goodes may be the most versatile of the players you've listed but he is also the most inconsistent.
Great players don't go missing for large parts of games, or entire games, as Goodes has done throughout his career.
Ablett, Franklin, Judd are consistently at the top of their game. Goodes only does it in bursts.).
