Really? Given the reported circumstances of his negotiations with Sydney before Brownlow night, that sounds like fantastic irony to me.

Not if you believe O'Keefe's remark that he and Roos were in touch throughout the period leading up to and during trade week (see article). Sounds more like babe in the woods to me.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Hadn't posted on this thread for a while.
But I have been reading it from time to time.
Is this still on track for the longest ever thread?

Yes as stated - he want's to go to Vic. I reacted earlier in the year when he gushed over wearing the big "V".
However he showed consideration..."so if I was to sort-of walk out on Sydney and them not get anything for me, then that's probably something I would feel a little bit bad about," he said.
He's very lucky the Swans have revised their offer to $450,000 a year (how many current clubs would do that! - he also should,nt forget those Melbourne winters that chill ya to the bone.

The Swans revised the offer at the beginning of the trade week, after he initially agreed and then said he wanted to look at returning back to Melbourne.

As far we know, we haven't revised it again and we have said take it or leave it to the previous offer we put to him.

I think this point is where the traitor comments come from. He came to an agreement with the Swans and then reneged. If no agreement had already been struck, then the traitor name calling would not be happening IMO.

But this is purely based on Roos' comments that they thought they had his agreement. In all likelihood they did think that, but it's not uncommon for two parties to a negotiation to have different views on where things are at until things truly are finalised. If he phoned Roos on Monday afternoon before the Brownlow and said "I'll pop round tomorrow to sign" and then changed his mind, then maybe that is a fair comment. But none of us knows how things really were.

What we do know is that the club thought they had a verbal agreement, then shortly thereafter O'Keefe's manager was shopping him around to Melbourne clubs without informing the Swans.

From his comments in this morning's press, it's obvious that O'Keefe really wants to go home to Melbourne, regardless of how many times we up his contract.

He doesn't want to play for us anymore. Staying with the Swans is simply a means to avoid getting drafted by the Eagles, Freo or Port. He's trying to ascertain the likelihood of this happening, hence the reason he keeps putting off a final decision.

The term "get it in writing" kinda springs to mind here.

Roos and the club would be very naive to think that a handshake deal is appropriate given the amounts of money involved.

What happens if he comes out and says that he'd retire unless he was drafted by a Victorian club these days?

Happened before, but I'm sure the AFL put down some measures to ensure that this could no longer happen.

Without knowing hoe all the players feel about all this, there is potential now for the club to have no option than let him enter the pre season draft.
I wouldn't want to be playing with someone who didn't want to be at the club, and in a way ROK is undermining all the players' chances of success for what some may consider his own selfish reasons.....

There's also the chance that he doesn't get picked in the psd - he might say that he needs $600K/year (to avoid being picked by Port) and none of the Melbourne clubs can afford it.

I believe these things are worked out in advance so that doesn't happen.
