      Back to normal for O'Keefe

Coach Paul Roos doesn't believe Ryan O'Keefe's teammates will treat him any differently, despite his initial wish to be traded

He wouldn't exactly be saying publicly "I want to a club who will pay me $600000 a year who will win something".

I was never as anti him as many of here are, as his contract negotiations were nothing compared to the stuff you see in Europe every week, both in terms of the negotiation period & the coin involved.

He & his manager played the game to see what they could get. The Swans & Stewie Maxfield did too. He took the safe option of staying with the Swans & living in Sydney to taking the risk of being shunted into the draft & ending up at Port or Freo. His preference was heading home, but Sydney and his future salary made staying here all the more easy.

He gets a 4 year contract that I'm sure is good for him. And we get to keep our star half forward. A definite win for the Swans & not much of a loss for O'Keefe (as Sydney are the devil he knows & not much will change).

All I can say is that more will be expected of him now. He will be a senior player on big money. He'll have to perform & show greater leadership as we start our rebuilding process and start seeing the leaders of 2005 retire and wain in significance.

Closest I've ever come to agreeing with you JF, except I think that O'Keefe was always after an extra year on his contract and was prepared to go to Melbourne if he did not get it - sort of a "stuff you then" attitude, though undoubtedly more sophisticated than that.

[Regards your avatar, I assume that the community was established by Melbournians, rather than relocated Sydney-siders?]

Yeah, it's about time for some delistings. Most clubs were done weeks ago.

Draft blows O'Keefe back to Swans

HAVING managed to secure his gun forward to a four-year deal, Sydney coach Paul Roos will meet Ryan O'Keefe this week to determine if there were other reasons behind his desire to leave the club.
Good move Roosey. See why he wanted to go. (Probably starts with R and ends in oosey!!!)

Roos added that, while he was uncertain how the players would react to O'Keefe's revelation he wanted out of the club, he was confident the well-respected forward would be welcomed back into the fold.

"Every player is different and obviously players would have different thoughts about it, but from my point of view we respect the fact he wanted to go back to Melbourne; we worked through the process with him, we couldn't trade with another footy club - then you go to the next stage, which we did," he said.

"I will sit down with Ryan at some point this week and make sure I'm very clear on what his thoughts were on why he did want to leave. Obviously the fact he is now coming back ? we'll sort anything out.

"I don't think I'd have a problem with him, but anything from his point of view or my point of view or the other coaches' point of view will be sorted out and done fairly quickly and he's the sort of guy who will gain respect back very quickly if any of the players whatsoever have any doubts.

Now-retired Swans ruckman Peter 'Spida' Everitt spoke earlier this month of the doubts that can linger between teammates when an attempted trade doesn?t go through.

Everitt eventually made his way from Hawthorn to the Swans at the end of the 2006 season but had wanted to head north a year earlier.

He said during trade week that he believed the Swans should do all they could to retain O?Keefe, recalling his own experience at the Hawks.

Everitt, who won best and fairest awards at two clubs, said when some players were unsuccessful in making a switch it could lead to an unhealthy environment.

"The players' (teammates) will question that later on through the year," Everitt said earlier this month.

"If you decide you want out and then it doesn?t come through, no doubt they have an obligation to question you and if you?re fully committed."
Quoted from the article posted by Scott - Back to Normal for O'Keefe.

I think ROK will find himself on the "outer" for a while.

Some of you think Adam Goodes should be on his last chance. Your favourite player has been given the boot... Not much left in it for some of you.

For the record, welcome back Rhino. Can't wait to see you sticking it up the supporters who showed a complete lack of faith. I think you're twice the player Nick Davis is and I reckon you'll prove it over the next 12 months.
