I'm also dissapointed about Brennans delisting, should of been given more consecutive starts, as others have, he was given no chance to settle in and build confidence.
On another point, why is it that Roos tries to paint having 3 picks in the draft as if it's something special. Like we're really loading up with kids. I would of thought 3 picks is the bare minimum.Comment

With the list as it is, there is only room for three picks.
Four off - Mathews, Brennan, Davis, Spida
One on - Shaw
So if they want to take more than 3 in the ND, or elevate a rookie, or have a pick in the PSD, at least one more will have to be delisted.Comment

not suprised about Brennan. Had a decent footy brain but absolutely useless disposal a lot of the time especially off the boot. Would be lucky some days to hit a grandstand from 10 metres in front of it. I feel for the lad though, must be tough to never quite make it."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

[QUOTE=ItsAllGoodes;419799]Without thinking about draftees, elevated rookies etc this creates a list that is very interesting looking to the next 3 years or so, when with Gold Coast and West Sydney there will be slim picking in drafts
I have tried to categorise the squad based on where they are, where they will be in a few seasons, not looking too far ahead, i.e 3 years only
On the fringe, make or break next season - Brabazon, Thornton, Laidlaw, Schmidt, Daniel O'Keefe, White, Faulks, Barlow, Meredith, Smith, O'Dwyer, Playfair, Grundy, Bruce
On the fringe, still in development - Currie, Murphy, Orreal
I think White should be in this second group - still in development KPP players take so much longer and our record in developing KPP players is pretty ordinary.
Cheers

I liked Brennan and like others would have liked to have seen him given more opportunities. Good luck to him.Comment

The real news of the announcement is that neither O'Dwyer nor Smith have been upgraded. (Nor Murphy.) The secondary surprise (for me at least) is that Grundy and all 3 of the class of 2005 have survived. I don't think it's Sydney's way to announce delistings in two or three different phases, and so this is likely to be it.
The minimalist delisting struck me as a real left-field decision, but on reflection it's the Swans' own modest version of talent stockpiling in advance of the much-hyped 'compromised drafts'.
The sad arithmetical fact of the matter is that at least 2 of the following list of young players are unlikely to make sufficient headway next year to justify their retention on the senior list in 2010: Grundy, Thornton, Brabazon, Laidlaw, Schmidt, White, Barlow, Faulks, DOK.
So this decision means that if the 2009 draft is shaping up like a spud and O'Dwyer, Smith and Murphy have continued to develop as expected, we have some quality back-ups on the rookie list who can be slotted straight in to the senior list to replace those who get the boot, rather than having to punt on developing a chancy 18yo from scratch.
Even if the 2009 draft isn't shaping up as badly as expected, the fact that we are likely to lose Kennelly, BBBH, MOL, Crouch and Barry all in one hit at the end of the year, means we'll have a sudden player deficit. One that we don't want to have to try to fill by taking 7 players in the 2009 ND; and we already know that we can't trust trade week to bring us much of consequence any more.
It's basically a vote of confidence in the quality of the youth now on our list. Now they have to go out and prove the club right.Comment

why?
because i dont agree with you.
Bevan was just one example, and for the record i would of delisted brennan, but i would of delisted bevan about two years ago, they would be easily on par for talent, bevan is a poor kick, average handball, reasonable mark. But because he was given opportunities he has developed into a handy role player in the side.
All im saying is given the same chances over the last two years brennan would probably of become the same sort of story, a handy player who once he knew his spot was safe could contribute to the side, he never got that.Theres not much left to sayComment

People who can't kick have no place in senior AFL footy. Should've been obvious from the start. There's a couple of others in the same boat.Comment
