This might be why......we've dropped off a lot and hardly surprising with the price hikes some experienced.
    I hope they get smart.

"We are considering a number of initiatives, which include reducing price to grow our membership," said Swans CEO Myles

A little toooooo late Myles, This is what they call back pedaling.
Time for a change of the guard.

From what I have heard the Marketing Manager bloke (he started last year) is a prize clown (and thats being kind) there was a major walk out in the Membership dept late last year and few were replaced, so that kind explains the reason they "outsourced" the membership packaging this year - and what a major success that was!! Also when staff leave they are not being replaced with qualified people, they are replaced with trainees to save on costs - and it spirals from there. Perhaps its time for a good dose of Salts for those at Swans HQ and start again.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

          Sounds like my workplace .

I sat next to this Marketing Manager at one of the focus groups last year and guess what, we clashed .
I mentioned prevoiusly on this thread my dissapointment with this fellow as he seemed fairly out of touch with what the people wanted. He was keen to discuuss the new packages and when price was mentioned said it was not important and that this was an exciting - blah blah blah blah insert marketing garble in this space -
I certainly spoke about what was obvoius to me, that we would loose a lot of supporters from the new Membership structure and pricing and all I got back was a smirk and more blah. What a goose.

Seems we lost 5000 in the end .

It's not just the price hike they're going to have to deal with. A lot of the 5,500 who didn't renew will have forfeited seats they'd probably had for years. How is the club going to make amends for that?

Hmm so you got to experience this chap first hand - full marks to you for keeping your composure for it seems this bloke needed a good clip across the ear. Obviously you were not telling him what he wanted to hear - so he started on the spin - it explains alot about what has now eventuated. loss of 5000 is a big chunk - are this blokes days numbered?

Good point - they have put a large number of noses out of joint with what they have done - remains to be seen what they do about it.

I don't know who the marketing manager is, but whatever strategy he implemented had to have the support and approval of the CEO. I think you'll find it's him who's really out of touch with how people feel.

True Myles does make the final decision - but he bases those decision's on the advice he receives from his divisional managers - ie Marketing and Membership that is what they are there to do - obviously he listened too them a bit too closely, took it on board, and look at the result!!!

I think a good CEO would have seen red lights flashing everywhere regardless of who came up with this particular strategy - unless it was his own.

Well his string of flashing lights obviously had one globe out of order rendering them inoperable - he still ran with the plan and got it ever so wrong!

Really ballsed up the membership this year.

                          Well done suits.

They probably have lost forever quite a few people, but there will be some of us who can be coaxed back if all the right noises and a big box of chocolates figures prominently!

As for seats, I think most people probably will be able to apply for their old seats back and will find they are available. Clearly none of the 20,000 mystery people the club felt were lurking in Sydney and ready to jump on board materialised (surprise surprise)!

In any case, we've been buying bronze seats as we go (Bay 1 for Tigers game and will be Bay 18 for Port) and it is refreshing to see a different angle of the ground for a change! Takes me back to the Swans link days when you could sit in a different spot every week if you wanted to ....

The stuff you guys are posting about this membership twerp makes everything fall into place. It is really upsetting and frustrating that a tool like that can have such devastating effects (loss of competent existing staff and the burning of 5000 or so members - what a dazzling achievement in ONE year!). Does anyone know if he is still employed by the club? If so, he has more hide than an elephant and it is a further indictment on the club that they haven't drop punted him to outer Mongolia to mitigate any further damage!

And one last thing (goes to competence again). After failing to renew after ten years, we did not get an email, a phone call, or anything to see why we didn't renew. 8 long term seats lost to the club and not a peep from them to cajole us back or find out why. The Vic clubs usually have the players get together for a night to call their lapsed members trying to win them back! I can safely say if one of our boys had put us on the spot over the phone, we may have weakened and signed up again!

I'll not join up next year to get a call from Goodesy begging me to come back.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
