    10 wants night GF.

Well, we knew it was coming, but 10 is pushing the AFL for a twilights GF if they can't get a night GF. I say stick with tradition.

TV stations can get @@@@@@. The clubs should decide whether they want it or not, then the paying supporters, and then the rest. If the club is happy to play it, then I will be happy. But if some wankers at a TV station want it, without permission from the club first, then piss off.

If Channel 10 give the AFL enough money, they'll eventually give in.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

Stick with tradition. I like watching footy more during the day.

We've had all bases covered in Sydney concerning the time slot for the NRL Grand Final. It always used to be in the afternoon, then at night for the past few years, and this year was the first twilight time slot.

I think the atmosphere is probably better at night, and it's certainly cooler for the players, but there are advantage in finishing early for the spectators - such as more time to relax and unwind with a few drinks afterwards. I liked the twilight timeslot for that reason.

It wouldn't hurt the AFL to experiment with the timeslot. But lets face it, the timeslot isn't the only Grand Final tradition that needs looking at. If the AFL is serious about turning the game into a truly national code, the Grand Final will have to travel interstate occasionally - certainly to Sydney, and probably Perth when they get their new stadium built.

Yeah, when there is another stadium that can hold 100,000. It is a fanciful and badly thought through suggestion given the lack of capacity at other grounds and given the MCG GF conract is for something like another 30 years.

the game is run by marketing people many of whom have no tradition and couldn't care less. They create bull@@@@ loaded survey's eg the loaded questions by Templetons wife re going to Telstra, when it is clear that most people hate the joint....it doesn't have "atmosphere" like SCG. The GF question is another example....an honest survey of the fans would put the matter in perspective....while we have no say in the issues the marketing people reign. Football is a daytime activity.

If you think the AFL is going to win over western Sydney with an attitude like that, good luck.

its going to be a very expensive and futile exercise.....its taken the swans a long time to get the 20k members committed.....in the early days all kids got in free etc... how are they going to get people in western sydney to sign up when membership is becoming so expensive.. family tickets at more than a grand....to the battlers of western sydney the cost factor will inhibit all but the die hard rules fans.....sydney crowds are so fickle... middle class.

I don't think they will, and I really don't care about a Western Sydney team, why would I? The Fat Controller is going to do whatever he wants regardless of whether it is the right thing for football or not.

Then we'll really know we've got a national competition on our hands.

God, I hope the AFL doesn't make the same mistake the NRL did. I went to the first night NRL GF and the feeling just wasn't the same.

I'm a passionate NSWelshman who has followed this great game all my life and would never dream of switching codes or supporting Victoria (like a lot of people on here I suppose), but I simply couldn't go for a change from the Saturday afternoon grand final at the MCG.
Big D's right, it just wouldn't be the same, even if the Swans were pumping the West Sydney Bogans in the AFL grand final in front of 84,000 people under the Homebush lights.
