I am for the GF always being at the MCG, it's just the way it should be.

As for the night GF, I am not exactly for it, but if the AFL want to continue draining hundreds of millions of dollars out of the TV Networks, expect them to cop awful ratings in Sydney and choose games almost 12 months in advance, they probably deserve a Prime Time Grand Final.

insecure - what the? how do you come up with that pearl of wisdom? and the people of Perth would provide an amazing spectacle for 60,000? - er thats a good 40,000 short of what the MCG holds, so I really dont see the AFL wanting to lose close to $10,000,000+ just so as the GF can be held interstate and appease the fine people of WA - that would be financially irresponsible. As a spectacle - the MCG has got the lot - why on earth change it. If anything, as with both the '05 & '06 grandfinals - the neutral ground suited both teams. Also I'm sure if you did a survey of the players they would suggest that anything other than the MCG for the grandfinal wouldnt even be entertained. Its what they all strive for - to run onto the MCG on the last weekend in September. I dont think running onto Subiaco or AAMI stadium has the same appeal.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I think you give away your insecurity with your little put-down about appeasing "the fine people of WA". It sounds to me like you're Melbourne-centric and pine for the good old days of the VFL.

I can assure you the atmosphere at Subiaco Oval - with a current capacity of 40,000 - is equal to, and probably better, than the atmosphere at any ground with a larger capacity - including the MCG. Perhaps you should visit Subiaco Oval when the Eagles or Dockers are running hot and see what I mean. It is simply awesome. And no, I'm not from Perth.

To suggest an occasional interstate Grand Final is not being anti-MCG, as I like the venue and have very fond memories of that one day in September from 2005. I just see no reason for the MCG to forever monopolise the Grand Final.

oh how wrong you are - in fact I'm sitting here in my office - looking over Darling Harbour here in SYDNEY!!!! born and bred SYDNEY - and I wasnt having a go at WA - they are fine people so suggest you dont assume as to what I'm thinking. Makes financial sense that the AFL would stage their biggest game of the year at the ground that has the greatest capacity, hence the MCG is the only option - its not rocket science. And having gone to a number of Grand Finals in my time (not just Swans either) I love the idea of going to Melbourne and the MCG. It has nothing to do with being VFL centric or such rubbish. The MCG is the home of the Grand final and thats the way it is.

You could say the same thing when the SCG is full and the swans are hot, or AAMI and Port and the Crows or the Gabba and Brisbane. Of course when the team the crowd supports is up the mood is electrifying. What makes the MCG great is that in recent years where it has been a neutral ground (Bris vs Port, Syd vs WC) it STILL attracts a mass following from Victorian and countrymen alike and it's STILL electric.

Not to mention of course that Perth is the Outpost of the West. I have no doubt people would trek accross the country to support their team, but in the numbers you wish to have if Freo or WC are not in it is simply not logistically sound. Australia's population is centered on the east coast. If nothing else it provides much easier access to a much greater proportion of people to have it there, and we all know no people are mad about sport like Melbournites.

            And I'm from Queensland.

                        Absolute garbage.

The biggest drawback to the GF now, even with 100K capacity, is that not all supporters of competing clubs can get a ticket because of the corporates.

Leave it at the largest capacity ground. If in the future the MCG is overtaken by a ground with more capacity, I'm happy to see it move there if it makes it easier for me to get a seat.

As it is at the minute, I'm more than happy to have a weekend away and enjoy the GF at the MCG.

Can't say I agree. I've seen AFL played in each state, and have to say I think the most passionate AFL supporters in Australia live in Perth.

There's no problem with people wanting better access to Grand Final tickets at all. That's one of the reasons I think the Grand Final should be sent interstate to Sydney and Perth occasionally. It would allow people in these other states a better chance of seeing the most important game of the year.
