    Goodness.
Read my lips ... it's only the ansett cup and we don't care about winning this pre-season comp.
I would have died if Goodesy was the one they carried off on the stretcher. The reason we don't play too many seniors is because of the risk of injury. I'd hate to go into the first "real" round with people like Goodesy, McHack, B1, B2, Kirk, Teddy, et al injured.
I think we've actually got a great squad this year and expect big things.

As an aside ... it was a national day of mourning yesterday.
I was sort of expecting a minute's silence before the game.
Did I miss it, or did they not do it??
      Disrespectful AFL. Disrespectful.

From this article ... Port take swans to the bank
From a Port guy, that counts as pretty gracious behaviour.

Not a lot to get excited about yesterday and probably confirmed for me that we're in for a pretty long season.

We played well in patches but there was little sign of the renewed focus on skills.

Hopefully we'll see gradual improvement over the next 4 weeks.

Roos has to be joking if he is serious about Pyke being considered as a second ruckman. No AFL side can afford to carry a passenger. He needs at least a year in the ressies learning the game regardless of whether he measures up physically.

Worth a flutter on McVeigh for the Brownlow? I think so.

Goodes fit and showing good pace was another good sign. Bird and Moore working around the stoppages did OK also.

DOK as pointed out by others was largely anonymous. Doubt he'll make it like we'd hoped.

EDIT: Forgot about Shaw who was excellent. And his foot skills looked elite compared to some of our other players!

Playfair has a hammy concern, not sure on Currie.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Currie suffering from niggles and out of contention for at least game one.

"We will probably try Jesse White next week in the ruck, he played there a bit last week.

"It will probably come down to White, Orreal or Pyke at this stage," Roos said.

It will be moribundly fascinating to see the blind optimists fall off the wagon one by one if the wheels start to fall off. I can already see few are getting ready to jump.

It was mainly a social day for me, a first at Manuka, and didn't have a program so I could'nt work out a lot of the newbies. What frustrated me was the same old scenario of 6/7/8 guys trying to link up through the middle only to have no one to kick it to or finish. Then Port rebounded with clean skills with a couple of kicks to goal.

Not getting excited about our prospects but lets face it we had a weaker team out than Port, played more players out of position and in the process gave a team, that loves 'keepings off footy', bags of space. Come the season if we go man on man they do not like it at all. Give them space, and boy did we do that in spades, and they look like champs.

Unfortunately the only rookies that looked like players were Meredith (appears to have skills) and White raw but showed something, the others look decidedly moderate.

Kirk didn't wear his usual head gear so that may have summed it up.

I fear we not only have a long year but will be left with quite a few players who we will be unable to delist because of G17 swamping the draft.

I would have thought the Club would have gone all out last trade/draft to compensate for the next draft. Might be a long year next year too.

By Rd 7 we should all know what sort of year we will be in for.
