Always been a mystery to me as well Bedford.

Between yelling at umpires, cheering and jeering + yapping/arguing with your mates about who's playing well and who's not, how the hell can u concentrate on listening to a radio.

My Dad always takes a radio to the footy, possibly because of his failing eyesight.

It's useful when an injury occurs, or to find out what a stupid free was for.

As for what is happening in the game, the commentators usually have no clue.
I remember listening to MMM years ago when Big Ed was working for them, I wondered what game he was watching, coz it sure as hell wasn't the one I was.

Was funny last night watching him try to start a bit of hissy and counter hissy (like he was able to do with Walls last year), but Hirdy was agreeing with him (about umpires enforcing pedantic rules).

Checked out the new One HD show "One week at a time". Good title - they really should consider it a one week at a time proposition - what a yawn. The only thing that will keep it going is a need to find content of any sort to broadcast.

The only interesting part was Malthouse (again - he's been in more shows than a showbag at the moment - perhaps a bit insecure about coaching?) and Richo.
I wish on the Couch went for 2 hours. It's just too short and even with Foxtel in the Northern states I don't feel there are enough AFL programs on tv.

The Robert Walls 4-step Commentary Technique
            1. Pick a topic in some way related to the game you're calling.
            2. Say it once. Eg "The Syndey Swans are kicking longer tonight".
            3. A minute or two later, repeat it. But this time phrase it differently. Eg "Kicking longer, are the Sydney Swans tonight" or "Longer kicking tonight, the Sydney Swans are".
            4. Repeat step 3 about 50 more times.

            Easy!
To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!

So Robert Walls really has Frank Oz's hand up his butt? Although I think at age 900, "look this good, you will not hmm?"

              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

So you're saying Walls is Yoda???

In a galaxy not so far away ... "Destroy the Swans, we must" says Yoda.
"Only if I don't destroy them with my death star first" replies Darth Demetriou.

"Throw Barry Hall in the ruck you must, if to defeat the dark side you hope."
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

To be honest I actually quite like Walls being in the commentary booth, I usually find him pretty amusing and the other commentators seem to be aware he is completely mad and play off it.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
