Watching the game live, it seemed Carlton were getting the better of the frees. However, just watched the recording and it looked fairly even.

Shaw was everywhere today and is doing an excellent job of running the ball out.

I think the wind was a factor in the inaccurate kicking. (Well for us, anyway - the Blues were just wayward).

McVeigh's three goals had class written all over them. Good to see him kick a few on Judd

Thought Eski came into the game a bit more in the second half after being towelled up by Waite early, who seemed to have brought his own footy even though his kicking was off...

Overall a pretty good team effort, shut down Carlton's run completely after quarter-time though having said that they were pretty ordinary today. Our complete lack of a forward line structure still worries me! We have the players who can do the job up forward when Hall and MO'L are out, but unfortunately they're needed elsewhere (Goodes in his usual roaming role, White in the ruck).

        Indeed. Quite Davis-like.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

It was scary when looking at the statistics (apart from the final scores, etc), because Carlton dominated them all.

Agree about Shaw being everywhere. He was like an energiser bunny, kept going and going.

Did anyone see the guy give Wiggins an absolute spray before he was going back on the field (after he clashed with LRT, etc)?

A win will do me any one of the 22 rounds, Carlton wanted this one badly, Judd was pressured to make quite a few errors, what a pleasure to watch Shaw cut swathes thru the midfield and to have 10 different goal kickers on the day was encouragiing. I reckon they enjoy a few games without Hall's demanding presence.

was there a report on a carlton player for striking LRT? Did I imagine that? There is no mention of it in the press, and Foxtel were showing a reply of Moorey's goal, while the commentators mentioned the report.

              Anyone know what happened?

It was a fair bump, this is the joke that Dimwitriou is making of our game. Absolutely nothing in it.

I didn't know Brett Kirk wore #14 these days and really, he looks far younger than I last remember - perhaps all the meditation is paying off. Nor did I know that Chris Judd is a part time ruckman who used to play for Collingwood.

Indeed,at the time looked high contact but watching the replay at the game contact was made to the upper chest area.

The commentary seemed to suggest he was booked not for that bump but for an off-the-ball incident a few moments later.

I don't have a lot of authority to comment on this game, trying to watch it whilst taking care of a two year old intent on exploring every nook of the OReilly stand. But I thought it was really exciting, I kept expecting a Carlton comeback but it never came and I thought we really evened the contest in the second half - by which I mean I didn't think we deserved to be leading at half time, but by the end of the game we deserved to win.

As mentioned above, our delivery into the forward 50 at times was a little poor - often resulting in a boundary thrown in which was annoying. But looking at the stats, it was an amazingly even contribution from the team (so many players with 16-20 possessions) and I can understand the Carlton fans being a bit raw at their players' effort etc.

Walking into the ground it was very windy, this may have contributed to the missed shots, particularly as a lot of Carlton's shots were from further out and from out wide. Not sure if that was acknowledged on the tv commentary.

I thought it was great for Thornton to take a good mark and kick the goal (really with his first kick??). That was the game highlight for me.

                              Moore=McVeigh 3years ago

I keep seeing comparisons with Moore's current form and Macca before he clicked. Moore gets the ball fast, gets clear then is sometimes unsure what to do.A "nothing "kick which is caught between two minds often eventuates like his shot on goal against Hawthorn from 20 metres that barely made the distance. His chips to nowhere ,his shots that just miss all demonstrate that he IS Thinking team wise.He is getting the ball.He will be a good player and needs to keep playing and get in the play a lot.I think for his self development a "run with" role would help him a lot and build up his engine more too.Potentially he is a great player,he is just not there yet.

A satisfying win against a hyped opponent. Great to see our no-name recruits upholding the Cortina tradition. Shows the quality of our young players - White, Grundy, Meredith, Thornton will all be around for awhile.

Barlow showed some footy smarts yesterday and he even laid a big tackle. He still shies away from the hard stuff though.

In the last two weeks Shaw, Jude Bolton and Ted Richards have been in brilliant form. Great to see LRT play so well after getting smashed against Brisbane.
