Game day thread Swans versus Carlton

My first game as a member! I felt like a 5-year-old accepting his first school prize as I walked up to a booth before the game & collected my member's cap. I really liked the guernseys too. And sort of dorky as those striped socks are, they're still fun. I want a pair.
I'm sure watching a win helped the enjoyment thoroughly - I was happy with Carlton's kicking too - at one point what, 1 goal and 12 behinds. Well, until we caught up with them on the 12 behinds bit. Then I fretted when it looked like Carlton might come back in the last quarter, but it was a false alarm.
OK, not the most insightful comments, but I'm still learning my way around. And I can finally learn from watching the games live ... then once I think I know what I'm talking about, I can become truly annoying ...Comment

I found the numbers EXTREMELY difficult to pick up from a distance. The black on red was not good - tended to only be able to see the 2nd digit of players wearing 10+. The design in itself looks good, but some kind of outline on the numbers to make them stand out would be good.
Until I actually got there and saw them, I really liked the strip as modelled in the promos.
Not so sure now, the numbering is definately an issue. I can pick them all up by their looks (although Mattner and Grundy look similar when they are down the far end and all you can see is the '9') but my wife and others without the benefit of many years watching these guys really struggled with the numbers.
Next time I'd like to see a white box on the back with red numbers (or black) similar to the back of the Geelong and Hawthorn strip.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

I found myself getting Mattner and Grundy confused, and even a couple of times getting McVeigh and Shaw confused when they were on the far side of the ground (must be the bald heads).
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

i dont know if anyone has mentioned this or not, as i just went straight to the last page..
but
1. was a GOOD WIN for the boys, though shutting off in the last few mins of the last 2 qtrs i wasn't too happy with to make the result look better than what is should have been.
2. good effort from the yng guys, considering Goodes, Kirk, Bolton were generally quieter than usual.
3. I am sorry but Ed Barlow needs to go back to the ressies, i am generally not one to condemn players or put @@@@ on them, but i found him to be lazy on the weekend, with disposal, second efforts etc..he just seemed form the comfort of my expert armchair position, but just coasting through on many occassion.Comment

I am not sure the ressies is going to help him develop. I am coming to the conclusion that he would be better off with a reasonable run in the seniors to help with his decisions. He's been very inconsistent with his efforts to date so I think he needs to prove he can knuckle down every week but he certainly adds an element of unpredictability.
At the end of the season if he hasn't come on then I'd say he'll make an ok top-up when the seniors are short.
Gosh he reminds me of Dale Lewis.Comment

I'm not sure I would use "lazy" to describe Barlow's efforts on the weekend. I actually thought that he worked very hard and second efforts were pretty good. His decision making is probably selfish in that he isn't aware of who or what is around him. If he had nailed any of the shots he blazed away with he would have had 4 goals and maybe there were better options.

Yes, he missed a couple of shots, but I'd rather him be having shots and backing himself than not.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

'Butterfingers' is his problem, can't seem to handle the ball cleanly - cost us a goal vs Carlton and several opportunities in the wet vs Brisbane"In some ways we?re less predictable to ourselves and sometimes that can be detrimental because we don?t really know where we?re going" - P.RoosComment
