We won't put Hall at risk, says Roos

SYDNEY are likely to be without key forward Barry Hall for Saturday's clash with Fremantle, with coach Paul Roos conceding the club would not take any risks with Hall and his injured groin.

The decision to take Hall could hinge on how Michael O'Loughlin recovers from his rare half of reserves football on Saturday.

First of all let me start by saying that I want Barry Hall in the team each and every week, I think we need him there in the forward line, but at the same time I'm not too fussed if he is not playing. Is it just me or do we play well/better without him?

Paradoxically, we often play better. This may be because: 1. It makes us less predictable (e.g. Paul Roos' comments); 2. We are forced to look for other options; 3. At present the other options are pretty good - if Mickey plays next weekend, Freo has to decide who gets their third defender, Mickey, Jesse or Reg, a dilemma that suits us fine.

First of all let me start by saying that I want Barry Hall in the team each and every week, I think we need him there in the forward line, but at the same time I'm not too fussed if he is not playing. Is it just me or do we play well/better without him?

I also love to see BBBH in the team but the players lift without him there because they have to. Other options(Grundy) get used and it makes them look good when they succeed.Of course forwards will kick goals and when we win they kick a few.

I also fully understand BBH's frustration at times playing on the receiving end of Swans passes. I believe in other teams (eg the Crows) he could have kicked 100. He leads well and often.He gets ignored then a long bomb comes to him when he is 2manned or 3 manned.What ever happened to "honouring the lead" which was drilled into us midfielders at schoolboy level. If only they placed the ball in front of Hall at markable height(not hard to do) he would get it 9 times out of ten.Instead,its over his head,at his feet,to his side,too slow etc etc.I admire the way he just keeps at it and leads again and again.

I believe a fit Barry hall is essential for the Swans final chances but if he is missing a few minor games it doesn't matter that much.

It's ok for a couple of weeks because it makes us less predictable but I have no doubt that we'd be better across a whole season with Hall, than without Hall.

Our two wins prior to the Carlton game (EF vs North and Rnd 2 vs Hawthorn) he played a significant role in, so we're just as capable with him there.

Have enjoyed watching games without Hall playing, not because I don't like him, but the options just seem to multiply and other players are freed up to have a go in the foward line.
