If his Mum is flying out, then he is playing. She is on her way.
He has definitely played in the Magoos. He is awsome to look at. He can tackle and he takes them on. His only fault at this stage (and we can tot them up later) is his tendancey to catch flies when rucking. He can kick ok. He moves very quickly. He has played on a big stage before as well as repping for his country. He has these shoulders that rival Snapper's legs in mmmmmm value. Not expecting "the next big thing" but am expecting competition.

I have only seen him play once (against Ainslie) and I was pretty unimpressed. However can't wait to see how he goes.

Would have probably preferred Currie also if he was right.

        I wanna be like Mike.

Quote from Big Bad Baz in Roos' Tele column today
I don't think he is human, he is a machine! From an older guy, looking at how hard he is working and how he does absolutely everything is good for the young guys to see. I don't know what his motivation was in coming here, but he is driven and it is great to see he is going to play his first game on Sunday.
Good luck to him on Sunday.

The great thing about all of this is that 1354 players have played for the Swans in their 110 (?) year history. (Pike will be # 1355). In all that time we have never fielded a player whose name rhymed unless you consider Neil McNeill from the mid-50s (he sounds a bit like Cool McCool btw). However with McNeill the meter was a bit out. Mike Pyke has the mono-syllabic allure down pat.

Some may argue that Jack Hacker who played over a hundred games in the years leading up to WWII, or perhaps Billy Billett from 1923 should receive honorary recognition for having a go in this area, but they will never match it with Mike Pyke.

A lazy poet might suggest Nick Smith or Dick Bliss (who sounds like he'd be more comfortable working in the adult film industry) but those suggestions don't hold a lot of water with me.

I'm hoping this sets a precedent and in future seasons a lot more application goes into recruiting players with rhyming names (Rolan Bolan, Zowie Bowie perhaps?). Bands have been trying it on for years.... Lynyrd Skynyrd, Milli Vanilli, Big Pig. Duran Duran tried but failed. So why not the players? It's bound to get more bums on seats while simultaneously messing with the commentators heads.

Anyway I'm hoping that he has a ripper. He'll probably go ok. This game isn't as complicated as some would have you think.

Get on the Mike Pyke bike.

If he wants any motivation, he just had to watch that smug ex richmond @#@#@$@ on fox footy teams last night, basically laughing at his selection and saying that he cant play.

He was almost as dismissive as some of the experts on this thread.

So that's four out with O'Loughlin, Moore, Hall and Pyke in?

It'll be interesting to see Pyke's debut (well, as long as he does well of course ... though, I suppose, either way would be 'interesting'). And I'm glad to see Moore back too - he's my favourite of the newer additions.

And with Hall and O'Laughlin back, even my sullen Slavic genes are being stirred toward optimism for this game. Now watch it rain.

I can confirm, Pyke will debut, Hall will play, MOL will play, Moore will play,

Barlow is def out, SOOOOOO....... my guess is that Thornton will be dropped. Him or Ablett (annoyed that Buchannon isn't dropped but gets his last chance IMO).

Ablett has done well, so it will surely be Thornton who goes. Surprised Jack is still in.

                                Nicely balanced team.

Besides White for Pyke and Bird, probably our best team we have put out all year.

Really looking forward to seeing Pyke run around and smash a few blokes.
