Standard fare for us though isn't it? The anti Swans bias would appear to extend past the commentary, al the way up to that fat bloke who bagged the way we played in 2005. If there's no influence there, I'll eat @@@@ and die. They want a second tea in Sydney? They better start to even things up on the playing field.

Jewels - c'mon - we women are not to have an opinion on anything when it comes to footy dont you know that???Mind you those who are having a go at us for having an opinion with regards to inconsistent umpiring decisions, you can guarnatee the next time the the free kick count is squarely in favour of the opposition, that these same people will complain the loudest!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I don't have a problem with the free kick count. I think generally that reflects the style of game we play. I think the umps are on a hiding to nothing with the rule changes and changes in interpretation etc.
What I do have a problem with is the discrepancy in the way that the rules differ in how they are applied to Barry Hall as compared with others. A perfect example on Sunday when Hall got flattened in front of goal, as it turned out, one of our blokes roved it and we goaled anyway. But it was too high, in the back, you name it. Not 10 seconds later, a pretty soft free is awarded in front of goal for the Tigers. The other issue I have is that an umpire will stand and watch as Hall is held, pushed, niggled, grabbed, whilst play is at the other end, then the second he turns around to shove back, the little orange bloke is in like the light brigade. It's no wonder Hall flips out with that sort of management, and it's been going on since well before Staker got what was coming last year.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

Interesting that you should talk about the Staker incident. As I was reading your post I thought of the footage of Staker holding Hall, in front of the umpire....no whistle, Hall snaps....the same umpire sees that........and reports him. As I have said before I don't condone the brain snap, but if the umpire had been doing his job and penalised Staker for a clear infringement of the rules, then that punch wouldn't have been thrown.Comment

Have had a lot to do with footy umpires in the past(ie. ex-husband) and it is an interesting section of the football industry. Egos play a very important part and the competitiveness within the umpiring ranks is absolutely cut-throat...it makes the players look like ladies blouses.
They would not be intentionally going out to be against Sydney but if the powers that be dislike that congested /contested style of play the umpires wouldbe doing their best to implement the instructions rather than lose face and be dropped."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment
