    LRT not missed!

Listening to the call one thing that was constantly mentioned was how great the backline was and how well they gelled as a unit.

The backline has been the most settled part of the swans lineup this season. Does anyone else think it strange that with the exclusion of the big defender LRT from such a settled back 6, that everything seemed to drop into place?
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

yeah but we were great with 22 contributors, port were terrible - you can't draw a conclusion about LRT under those circumstances.

Sort of like saying Gary Ablett is overrated because Geelong won by 70 points when he was out injured.

They worked a treat today, although the delivery wasn't exceptionally good. Lucky they had a DUD recruit to help them out.

You misunderstand. It's more a comment on the team than the individual.

I think the defense had a great game but the movement by the Swans from around the ground and the pressure in the midfield gave them a walk up start.

LRT will be back when fit and we need the tall.

The defence has been reasonable all year, with or without Lewis. It was hard to get a gauge on how good they needed to be, given how shocking Port were. Had they (Port) got their act together and delivered the ball with purpose and penetration to Tredders it might have been a different matter. Ted did a good job given the size difference but he was easily beaten a few times too.

              Bloody Hell,

You probably know me better as your old comrade in arms at PUSH.

Good to see you still flying the flag in the Northern Hemisphere.
Can you please have a word to Kennelley if you see him in the street and
get him recruiting a replacement for LRT?

I have been touting his inclusion in the team for the last 2-seasons - as our
weak link, so I am right behind you here mate.

His weekly rating from inside football was easily the worst in the league
for a guy who played that many games last year and this year is not that much better. (Av 4.5/10).

It is time to search for a permanent CHB. LRT has poor dsiposal, limited 1x1 body strength and questionable decision making.

A strong body is an ingredient that has been missing from our side. For far too long we have had to rely on CBolts, Teddy & Barry to play 'above weight' to cover a lack of a solid CHB.

Let's hope you are right again this week. Here's hoping for a repeat result against the Dogs.

PS: Say G'day to Skye for me and unfortunately we missed out on a gong for Rush's on Friday.

We only didn't miss LRT because Port had a short forwardline, and conditions were slippery due to earlier rain, not lending itself to big men. As it was, we still had to play Grundy out of position at times. Had Justin Westhoff not been injured, then our backline would have been very stretched indeed. It was just lucky that 2 of Port's 3 main targets up forward could be played on by a small defender (Ebert and Motlop taken by Bevo and Crouch respectively).

You also can't ignore the midfield pressure we applied to Port all game. When the pressure lapsed, and Port were allowed to run and deliver the ball effectively, Tredrea took numerous marks on the lead, exposing Teddy's weakness as a one-on-one defender. LRT is far better in that scenario, and Richard's is far better playing loose. It's just lucky our midfield was up to the task of stopping the delivery.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

                    Crap!

Teddy is a good one on one defender and doesn't get pushed off the ball as easily as LRT.

They play different roles because Ted has skills, where LRT doesn't.

                    I'd much rather have 2 Teds than 1 LRT and 1 Ted...or god forbid 2 LRT's!

If this is the case please explain how a settled backline can play better without one of their "stars".

Undoubtedly Crouch's inclusion has had an impact, but all week I've been reading posts about how much we're going to miss LRT.

How can you possibly know whether our defence wouldnt have been even better with LRT playing? You dont. Fact is LRT has played well this season and rather than focus on his performance in the games he has played in you are focusssing on the game he has missed and based your case on PURE SPECULATION. I would suggest that you are the one lacking insight, reason or fairness in your ridiculous critique.
