    LRT was NOT missed because of the fwd line we were playing. PA is generally a small team but yesterday especially. Excepting Brogan, Lade, Tredrea and maybe one other, they didn't have any tall marking options across the ground that could play fwd. Their "other" fwds that they rely upon heavily (Ebert, Motlop, Burgoyne), are smaller types that were well covered by our more mobile, smaller backs.

    We didn't miss him this week and probably won't miss him this week either against the Bulldogs (They're pretty short in the fwd line too). But we would miss him when we line up against Hawthorn.

            I would rather him out than in.

            He has been, in my opinion, for some years our weak link. It is said on this site and perhaps elsewhere that this was because he had been suffering from an injury.

            Accordingly I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now. But my own view is that ted gives far more offensively and yes defensively than LRT.

            LRT is best when playing on a slow lumbering resting ruckman. Teams don't do that so often any more.

            Anyway I'll wait and see but i have too many memories of franklin on him and the mcg, pavlich on him, brown on him, anthony on him, medhurst on him (although why roos let that happen I'll never know), rocca on him, even minson on him.

            They all happened during his foot injury period so I guess I'll continue to watch.

            But I'll never forget that moment (was it against brisbane) where he watched his man so intently that the ball went past him on the ground for a goal

LRT is a very good spoiling, all elbows, arms legs and whatever he can get to the contest type defender. To continue the horse analogy LRT is suitable pulling a milk cart Ted is more your thoroubred.

                            What seemed to work against Port may not necessarily work against other sides, or against other sides at other grounds. I seem to recall a number of folk (myself included) thinking we would roll over the top of Freo after a solid game against Carlton with no Hall or Micky O. We play the SCG better than anyone which can often lead to imperfect analyses.

                                I don't agree entirely with that. Swans surprised Port with hard running game style and tight pressure on the turn-around.

                                The Swans deserve the accolades from the pressure and opportunity creation from the boys in the mids and HBs.

                                    But on topic, LRT is a good solid defender and has shown he can handle J Brown.
                                    He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

                                        I was saying the backline was settled with LRT in place - ie. they hadn't been changed for weeks. How is that subjective? You just check the team sheets...
