How can you possibly know whether our defence wouldnt have been even better with LRT playing? You dont. Fact is LRT has played well this season and rather than focus on his performance in the games he has played in you are focusssing on the game he has missed and based your case on PURE SPECULATION. I would suggest that you are the one lacking insight, reason or fairness in your ridiculous critique.

Teddy is a good one on one defender and doesn't get pushed off the ball as easily as LRT.

They play different roles because Ted has skills, where LRT doesn't.

I'd much rather have 2 Teds than 1 LRT and 1 Ted...or god forbid 2 LRT's!

Gee, you really are blinded by your hatred of LRT. If you think Richards is as good one-on-one as LRT, then you're quite frankly insane. LRT was coming back from a serious injury layoff last year, so his form was very up and down, but so far this year LRT has been great in defence (excluding one shocker against the Lions). Richards is far more suited to a role somewhere between Hodge and Bowden, as he simply is not physical enough (not because he's not committed, his marks going back with the flight are the definition of courage, and he always tries when he's asked to be a key defender, but he doesn't have the body for it). LRT, for all his awkwardness and tendency to give the occasional free away, relishes physical contests, and is at his best in that situation.

I have no idea how you get that Ted is not commited or physical - particularly using going back with the flight of the ball as an example of courage?

I say that he's not physical enough, despite putting in the effort. Nobody is doubting his courage or commitment, but that's not enough to be a consistent key position player. Otherwise Kirk would be the best CHB in the league. It's really not that difficult to understand.

Richards simply doesn't have the frame or physical strength to hold down a key position in defence. He can do it in a pinch, when players like LRT go down, and today we got away with it because our midfield put pressure on almost every inside 50. But LRT is a much better man-on-man option (and Teddy is a much better option playing loose, where he can make full use of his courage in marking contests without having to wrestle with blokes considerably stronger than him).

Again, how can you know that the defenders would not have been even more 'settled' (now there is an objective measurement) with LRT in place? It is obviously just your opinion, and you are well and truly entitled to state it, but don't try to state it as a fact.

Not sure what people are trying to say here, but for what its worth, I would rather LRT in than out.
