Why would you want some one back who turned their back on a club that made him,....I dont care that he was a gun,the point is "HE WALKED OUT"so i say dont bother coming back.

Warwick Capper walked out. We welcomed him back.

Paul Hawke walked out. We welcomed him back.

John Rantall walk out. We welcomed him back... then he walked out again.

Face it. Players leave. Some come back. People need to get off their high-horses, as don't forget, ALL football clubs dump players too! And some of those players don't want to go. It's NOT one way.

so can anyone explain the whole situation to me properly, this is how I get it... by september, his county Kerry should have won the all Ireland championship, apparently they are the Celtic, Man U, Barcalona of gaelic football, they just win all the time. Once this is done, and he has fulfilled his fathers/his wishes of winning an all Ireland Championship to honour his late father, he wants to come back to play AFL. Now, he is still on the swans list, but that finishes at the end of this year. Now when he comes for season 2010, does that mean he still with the swans, or does he have to nominate for the draft and than anyone can pick him up?

Not so fast Pancho. Kerry are not even in the same park as Celtic. They are more like Carlton. Arrogant, shifty and believe they were born to rule ( the Kingdom). They were beaten last year by a very good Ulster outfit and they are no certainties. They however are notorious for their arrogance - a former coach described their supporters as "animals". They are talking it up but they are no certainties to beat their Munster neighbours Cork. The mighty rebels may yet spoil Kennelly and Kerry's plans. The rebels annual threatened strike has been averted and they are on track to win it. Presumably if Kerry dont win the All Ireland Kenelly will chase the dream next season. Go the Rebels!

Well said goswannies. Not sure why greater loyalty is expected of the player than his club, if this is all about business.

Another I guess you could add to the list is Greg Williams - not in a playing role obviously - didn't he present the player guernseys earlier in the year?

Not sure whether Kennelly will be in any fit state to return and play at his best at the top level, however it wouldn't surprise me if he was told by the club to go and do what he felt he had to do in Ireland and come back if/when he is ready.

IMHO, the door should always be open to the likes of Kennelly. Even if it was not in a playing role, he would have plenty to offer the club.

As someone else posted, he is actually a tremendous bloke to meet and it goes without saying that his achievements in the game are nothing short of outstanding.

All those players left and returned when the club was a basket case without credibility and was a laughing stock of the competition. You make it sound like he hopped on the train and went to Pennant Hills. He walked out on the club after giving assurances he would play out his contract. There is a kid playing in a park soemwhere who could have had a start but for his abysmal timing and selfishness. He may be a good bloke but he is a very ordinary clubman.

Some people need to get over it, he missed home and had something that is very important to him that he needed to do. If he does come back and plays well, no one will be complaining.

One of the most annoying things about Kennelly is the assumption he can float back to Ireland put in a few months and win the All Ireland with Kerry. Sheer arrogance. Life is not a Walt Disney feel good movie. Kennelly just wants to win titles. We need footballers who will stick. Otherwise the club just becomes the bloody revolving door it was in the eighties and the early nineties.

You don't think that quote might be taken a little bit out of context? He said he came to "hate Australia" because it represented his isolation from his family. He didn't actually hate the country, he just hated how far away he was. It's not like he says, "Oh, Australia, never going back to that hell-hole". It wasn't the country itself, it was the location.

And the fact that it meant he missed being with his father for any length of time before he suddenly died.

I hate to disagree with your well thought out criticism, connolly, but wasn't Paul Morwood part of the Edelston recruiting drive that culminated in the Swans 1986-7 finals appearances (the first in nearly a decade)? Although he didn't participate (because he was discarded again like a used tissue). And when Rantall came back, the Swans played finals the following season for only the second time since 1945. Finals doesn't give credibility?

Actually, I think I might have written "He just went home". Where his family are. Goodness forbid that he have tight family connections and aspirations beyond the Swans (after having given up the bulk of his youth - late teens to mid-20s to commit to a game he knew nothing about in a country where he knew no one).

Did you have the same feelings about Gerard Healy when he went before his contract was up? Don't forget Tadhg had some serious injuries but played on despite the fact that I can guarentee that recurrent gleno-humeral and patella dislocations will physically dibilitate him later in life.

Come on Connolly not even you beleive that.

Sometimes you just have to do it and Kennelly was entitled to go back if he wanted or needed to, just the same as he is entitled to be welcomed back to the club if he decides to come back next year.

Mate, I realise that a fair whack of what you say on this forum is just to stir @@@@ and generally I find you pretty funny, but you're seriously off your tree on this.

You're into Coney for buggering off and I think that's fair enough. Kennelly has put in something like eight years at the Swans and played a big part in winning the flag. He stayed on the field and got his teammates to pop his shoulder back in just so he could play on FFS!!!

His loyalty and commitment can hardly be questioned on those grounds alone.

And yet, let's look at his reason for going home? To honour his deceased father and play for the county in which he grew up and where he was taught to play football.

He made a commitment to return to his country of birth and play with the team of his father, his childhood team, to which he owed loyalty. If having achieved this he returns to the Swans, then that's simply a yet greater sign of loyalty. And he was honest about it all from day one.

Beyond that, any member of the 2005 side has a free pass in my book. Because I'm loyal.
