    Shaw

What was with his outburst against Moore?

Yes it was a rubbish handball, but surely he is the last person to criticise anyone on their disposal?? Makes it even worse that it was a junior player.

I'm a massive Shaw fan but to me that sets up a negative mindset. Wasn't the whole philosophy of Roos that if a player makes a mistake, don't drag him? To me this is no different, if they stuff up (innocently as opposed to breaking team rules) don't abuse them.

On a side note, would have been happy if Moore got a massive serve for being selfish around goal and not dishing off to Jolly.

It will no doubt take a while for Shaw to change the habits of a lifetime..if he can at all. Coming from his genetic gene pool and playing for Collingwood must surely do your head in big time.
One minute semi-god status then world's worst, plus paparazzi type attention in Melbourne surely must scramble any but the strongest brains. Even Gentleman James Hird who actually has a few clues had to work hard to cope with all that stuff.

The main thing that needs to come from it though, is he needs to learn from it.

I never thought Jude would fix his goal kicking but he has so maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks(but can you teach a Collingwood old dog?)

Shaw's poorest game for us and the outburst smacked of someone believing his own hype. Hopefully, someone will quickly get him to pull his head in.

The general selfishness of the entire playing group defensively, bar a few exceptions, means we shouldn't be singling out Shaw.
Yes he had a bad game but seriously, everyone just looked to themselves. Contrast that with the week before, where we have 2-3 players at almost every contest.
          Annoyed!

Thank god I had non footy visitors up from Canberra (of all places) and we went to watch Star Trek (which is pretty good by the way).

Score updates via mobile into the third quarter were horrific enough - could not believe how quickly the goals were racking up.

Maybe the only explanation is that there is some strange other force - the oft referred to footy gods maybe - which say the swans will deliver the dogs a gift quarter each match, which will be enough to win them the game. It has happened in all four of our most recent matches against them, three times in the second quarter. Perhaps it's just an inexplicable hold a team develops over another for a season or two (or more in some cases), without any basis in form or personnel. The bright side is that it will end eventually (but hopefully quicker for us than Carlton's winning drought in Sydney, for example!)

Hopefully we'll be on the right side of such a hoodoo this week as we tackle the Hawks - who can boast only one win against us since 2004! Add in the ability to bounce back after a pounding, and the Hawks miserable form this year - four of their five wins are against four of the bottom five sides, and the fifth was a steal from Carlton, and we should be pretty confident!

Bulldogs really worked on pressuring Shaw, understanding that he is lethal when left unchecked but loses his mind when otherwise.

IMHO, too much reliance on a player who has a history of not handling a hard tag.

Interesting thought. And they did their homework thoroughly on a couple of others as well.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Spot on. But where was Roos counter? Should have moved Shaw into the midfield at the latest early in the second quarter when it was obvious that he was being forced so wide he was virtually playing in the fifth row inside the fence. Significantly Shaw was on the boundary line when Moore handpassed outside and behind him. First question Rhyce - why were you skirting the boundary line? Second question Rhyce - why weren't you trying to run through the inside to get our run back into the central corridor? Third question Rhyce - who gives you the licence to openly abuse a young team mate? I've already commented on Roos weak response but it wouldn't have been too difficult to tell him to shut up either on the field or on the bench

I'm very disappointed. I had been quite impressed with his leadership in the last couple of weeks in terms of organising the backline and helping identify options.
I have no doubt that there will be a couple of up close and personals with the leadership group.

Sorry my eponymous friend, I think you have more chance of getting value from Leo - or Plugger - than Tiger. The game has moved on, I doubt his body would be up to it despite his age and I hear that not everyone in the club was happy about the manner of his leaving.

It's funny how half the threads are about how Crouch is a has-been even when he's one of our few effective players and how we need to play the kids and the other is a hankering for the golden days of 2005. Roos has extended his contract, contrary to his earlier statements, so he's here for the rebuild. We'll just have to go along for the ride.

Get over it. We don't need him back. If he came back he would spend more time off injured and get paid very handsomely for it.

He and his Irish leg waggly thing can continue to perform for Kerry for the next two decades with my full blessing.
