Agree entirely. Shaw is providing a lot more than Kennelly did in his last two years at the club (admittedly due to injury).

People are kidding themselves if they think he's going to come back and be the saviour.

As for Shaw's outburst - it's a stressful and passionate game, don't be so precious. Wouldn't like to see it every week as he can turn it over himself but nothing to worry about as a one off.

That's the problem though, It's not a one off. He had a spatt at Mattner in the Port game that was totally unnecessary. It just shows lack of discipline. I hope he can remove that from his game.

Shaws outbursts are probably spur of the moment and due to frustration , I have played with guys that constantly do this and its difficult for them to contain themselves.

That said, the outbursts never achieve anything and rarely motivate team mates to better things, especially when said person is never perfect themselves. In fact can have the opposite effect as guys get a "what makes you so perfect" attitude in their minds which then it just stands to isolate the team from each other at a difficult moment.

Most guys at this level know that they are doing the wrong thing and it doesnt take a bake from a teammate or even the coach for that matter to let them know. I reckon it comes from the within and if the playing group dont have that hunger no amount of positional changes or yelling by the coach will change the situation.

I would think that Roos would have quietly taken Shaw aside and had a chat to him at some stage. It is incorrect to equate lack of rant and raving with lack of assetiveness in getting a message across.

People need to get over the idea of Moore being young and new. He is, afterall, a member of the leadership group.

Personally, I didn't like the bake from a 'lack of respect to one's leader' perspective.

As for Roos' alleged 'not dragging players policy', I think it's fair to say that Bevo was dragged during the first quarter and copped a fair bake himself from the head coach on the sidelines for all to see and hear.
And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .

This never criticise a teammate stuff is rubbish. Unless you know exactly what is said and why there may be benefits.

Something yelling "F F S do the easy thing. Don't go outside what you are capable of" is quite normal and may actually be beneficial. In Moore's case telling him loudly and abruptly that a simple handpass may have been smarter than trying to no look handpass might actually be the kick up the pants the boy needed.

Every team has players who yell and players who talk. No different from any workplace which has high intensity and stress. Some people only respond to being yelled at some from being supported.

Nothing gives a team more encouragement than seeing the opposition arguing amongst themselves.

Shaw should probably have a week in the ressies to think about it.

Yep, I have one of those workplaces and the yelling doesn't work.

I like many others on this site am an expert lip reader. Off a grainy 19" tele with crap reception. Bevo took his mouthguard out in the dignified way that only he has, looked the coach (who had that hysterical look that trapped rats have when they are in medical labs) squarely in the eye and quiet intensity that only the kid has said: Coach a coach's greatest asset is his sense of responsibility - the reliance placed on him by his players. True. The kid actually quoted Knut Rockne!

Roosey needs to get his thinking trilby on. The rev up Roosey should have given to the boys in Canberra.

                      The REV

The Rev up,the spray, the savage word. It's got to be good to work. The coach has to mean it. Few speeches were better than the SANFL legend Jack Oatey ,the Churchillian speaker who got a perpetually losing wooden spoon team up for 6 premierships in his reign. As a young kid I would listen in awe.Once when a newspaper article rubbished their chance of winning the Grand Final,he bought 20copies,cut out the 20 articles and pinned them to the inside of the lockers so it was the first thing the players saw on GF day when they opened the lockers. Those were the days! I simply don't accept that human nature has changed so much that these tactics no longer work.

There is the story of the great Reg Hickey who prepared the Geelong premiership game with a complex game plan that hinged on Bobby Davis coming into the centre off the half forward flank and running at angles etc. etc. Davis apparently used to tape inspirational messages onto his boots such as "Kill Em". So after a week of careful tutoring by Hickey at training on the big day the great coach pulled the Geelong flyer back from his troops as they ran out onto the MCG. Hickey wanting a last minute check that Davis was on top of the game plan said "Bobby what do you have to do out there today?" Davis replied: "Kill em Reg".

I love the "playing Coach" the best! No B@#$% because he is out there with you. Hilarious phrases, unbelievable expletives roared with a passion that scared his own players let alone the opposition. One guy (unnamed but known by a few) destroyed a metal garbage bin in the rooms on GF day.He didn't talk,he just kicked the S@#$%^ out of this bin.We all joined in.Then when this bin was reduced to a flat piece of tin he began a chant that got louder and louder. We ran out completely hyper and in a trance and smashed the top team..first time we had ever beaten them..The player coach..another thing of the past!

Teddy Whitton was the last? Ronnie Clegg for the Bloods? The greatest was Jack Dyer who told a story of the tribulations of trying to coach and play. He had a raw boned recruit in the ruck with him who was struggling and on the run the hard man told him to go to centre half back. Raw Boned Recruit "Where's centre half back Jack?". Captain Blood replied (still running) **@@##!!! me son you don't have to be a @@##$$**!! Rhodes Scholar to know where centre half back is!!! Raw Boned Recruit "Whats a Rhodes Scholar Jack?"
