It's taken 4 years for us to install the following players as regulars
Grundy
Jack
Malceski
Moore
Bird
the only other changes have been made up by trades
Richards
Shaw
Mattner
the rest of the team are from the 2005 premiership
So don't expect any changes perhaps C. Bolton (inj)
Two weeks is long enough to forget bad form and look forward to the challenge v PiescheersComment

I was just having a look at the school footy board on bigfooty, trying to fins some comments about Hanners and I think we have A LOT to look forawrd to with the way people are talking about him. Having been a bottom aged pick last year, people are placing him alongside butcher and scully, players touted as number one picks for this years draft! Brilliant recruiting I say!
Al these quotes are from a thread called top 5 APS footballers '09
"to get the ball rolling ill throw a few names out there (not a top five as such, just a few thought provoking names).
Watts (BGS), Lowden (Caul), Hanneberry (XC) are musts natrually, however i am hoping discussion can not be totally centred around them as real and interesting insight would refer to non-AFL listed players. "
"Hannebery is an absolute freak"
"5. Alex Keath (MGS)
4. Steven May (MGS)
3. Dan Hanneberry (Xavier)
2. Tom Scully (Haileybury)
1. Jack Watts (BGS)"
"5. Liberatore
4. Keath
3. May
2. Hanneberry
1. Scully"
"1.Scully (Hc)
2.Hannebury (Xc)
3.May (Mgs)
4.Watts (Bgs)
5.Cachia (Skc)
6.Mitchell (Mgs)
7.Jacobs (Bgs)
8.Purcell (Skc)
9.Keath (Mgs)
10.Duryea (Cgs)"
"1. Scully (Hc)
2. Mullucks (Wc)
3. Hannebury (Xc)
3. Purcell (Skc)
4. May (MGS)
5. Watts (BGS)"
"1. Scully HC
2. Hanneberry XC
3. Jones SC
4. Lowden CGS
5 Keath MGS But probably No 1 next year, and only draftable to GC this year."
"My Top 5 are:
1. Scully (HC)
2. Hanneberry (XC)
3. Shiel (CGS)
4. Watts (BGS)
5. Duryea (CGS)"
...and that's just a taste of how highly people on that board rate him.
Consistently named as a freak and up there alongside scully etc..
I'm so excited to see him play next season...will be a ripper of a player for us!WE NEED CHEESE!!!Comment

Looking at the changes for this week I think he is starting already, maybe a couple of forced changes, but it's a start, sooner or later we have to move on from the guys we have now, I reckon MAgic and Baz might have another year in them, Kirky probably play til he's 40 tough bastard, but the emphasis on running footy and handball use means youth. A long kicking game lends itself to experience and the ability to take contested pack marks (Read Heath Grundy and possibly Jesse White, Jolly of course) in short big men. We have few, and few REAL speedsters. Shaw gives us run off the backline, Eski is off the boil, Teddy is middle of the road, LRT, who I love t watch play on sheer guts, is a plodder, where's the speed? , Maybe we should have recruited Cousins LOL. Hopefully the yuonger brigade can supply this rarest of qualities in the current likeup

I'm beginning to wonder if this season may just be Magic's swansong. Sad thought. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

But the conservative thing would have been to bring Ablett in as one of the replacements. To bring 3 in at the same time with fewer than 20 games experience between them is a far more radical selection table than I can recall before under Roos.Comment

Why do so many posters think the answer to our problems is to have every player a fast sprinter?
I don't mean to pick on your comment specifically, but leg speed is not the speed we want.
We want faster ball movement, a good kick is a lot faster than anyone running the ball (unless it is one of Kirk or B1's up and unders)
Look at the Cats, they have a couple of out and out speedsters, but really their apparent speed comes from quick, accurate passing.

This is a call of arms to young Swans to band together
We can't flood no more, it's not in-vogue... pffttt... whatever
Phase the cortinas out, win the ball at a bounce, they'll cry and shout
Wave your hands
Scream in vain
For withered stars won't rise again
The youth is starting our change
Are you starting our change?
Are you?
Together
In a couple of years
Bird will have turned boredom to cheers
Jesse going hell for leather
Smith, Veszpa, Johnston you'll get it together
The youth is starting our change
