When was the last time we saw Sydney go "coast to coast" from a kick in.
Been ages, and why? Because its not in the game plan. Better to have a multitude of possessions around the half back line than move the ball forward by running, handpassing, and kicking to position. Honestly watching Geelong and watching Sydney, you would think Sydney are playing with a different rule book. (yeah I know the scumps hate us but not even the scumps are to blame for our lack of basic footy skills)Comment

Id rather have someone who dominates the clearances giving first use of the footy like that tonight everyday of the week rather than some poof who runs on their own and hits a target everytime, they dont win you games the blokes doing the hard stuff do, have a look at Barlow tonight did he give us the opp to win, dont think soComment

I came on here to have a whinge. But then I read a few posts and decided that you have it covered for me.
I find it a little sad that you are mostly having a go at the Swans, but I suppose we all send our anger in different places.
I was more interested in the fact that:
Half a quarter to go, the Swans are down but outplaying their opposition, they should be able to do get home, but...
A free kick is payed; a fifty metre is given (or 3); a goal is scored and the momentum swings.
I know, I know. We can only control what we do, but I don't think for a second that any one of our players or coaches is trying to do anything other than what they can to win a game.
I don't think I can blame the umpires either; I don't think they are doing anything other than their job, but...
It shouldn't have been a free kick to Davis and having another look at all of those 50s against Barry last week, none of them should've been payed.
The Swans need to improve, but so does the officiation of our game.
At three quarter time, my biggest worry was that the Swans wouldn't be credited with a win. That the talk in footy over the coming week would be about the need for substitutions and that's what robbed the pies of the match. Now, I'm sure substitutions won't be mentioned, the pies will be lauded for their ability to win a couple of players down and worst, no one will mention the manner in which undeserving goals are handed out willy-nilly.
Rant over.Comment

I love Kirk's work ethic, but I didn't think this was one of his better games. The possessions look good on paper, but the reality is that barely half of them found a teammate and several went straight to the opposition. It's no good getting the first touch out of a contest if the opposition wind up putting it back over your head.Comment

Oh how I hate the Pies.
What I took out of tonight's performance is reinforcement of how frustrating it is to follow the Swans - when we lose it's so often because of factors we have control.
Going to be an interesting season. I'm sure after a few bottles of South Australian wine I'll be optimistic again and ready to take on the Crow's crowdComment

He was the one who gave us a chance, ask every other coach in the Afl if they would love him in there side and they have all said how much they admire him. A def starThe edge is not the limit, It's just the starting point...Comment

I think we need to settle down. The pies are 4th and I thought we were unlucky, more than anything, not to beat them. It happens sometimes, thats why its such a good game. Sure at certain stages we make the wrong decisions or skill errors, but i'll cop that. The effort from the boys was there tonight and if its maintained we'll make the finals. 100% improvement from a couple of weeks ago. Ed must be shown the door but the rest, as always, are goers. I'll back us to win a few in a row from here.Comment

it just seems that we have no friggin plan...we all go for the hard ball...so no question about courage just intelligence...oh well, maybe next time......Comment

Poor skills, poor options: the story of this side.
I know footy's a confidence game, and the confidence of a lot of players is down, but at this level there's no excuse for turnovers, poor kicking, and bad handballs. With our skill level, we have no other option but the defensive game plan.
Melcho had a good one in the seconds. Maybe this time he can bring it back to the As and let Crouchie play out his days in the capital. Vespa is on the verge - that's something to look forward to.
Jack and Barlow need to learn to take their chances, though Hall also missed gettable shots. As for poor old MOL -- 300 looks a long way away.
Thornton showed again he's got class, and Smith did a little bit. This time let's keep playing them - there's no upside in putting them back to the twos after three games.
The only positives today were how we fought back, and that we had eight players with 40 games or less, and four who'd played less than 20.
Next week, the Crows at AAMI. Dear me.The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment
