What liablility does Hall impose on the Swans?
If hes suspended then we have the team that would exist without him and if hes in we have a tough uncompromising forward presence who has played well all year. At worst we in the same position that sacking him puts us in anyway.
There is no liability in that and only upside to keep him. As for bad example for young guys - Rubbish. He is fit, hard at it , uncompromising and a pretty good shot at goal. Any young player if anything will take those things on board, not the odd brain explosion.
If I was Roos , I would love to have a tough nut like him in the side. I would be saying privately " Look the AFL wants to potray a wholesome image, so Kirky and I are going to go out in the media and say all the usual stuff but get over your injury and get back firing in three weeks".
Going forward next year , you would only get rid of him if salary cap restraints meant that you either lose Hall or Vezpremi. The I would let him go.Comment

Congratulations. You've managed to misquote me and miss my point completely.
What I am saying is that even in 2005 when he was being "good", Hall was potentially a liability. Fast forward to 2009, and his onfield behaviour has deteriorated to the extent that he is without a doubt a liability to the team, irrespective of his goal kicking ability.
I respect what he did for us in the past, but its time to move on, his sentiments in the article in The Age online seem to agree with this.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

Big Beamish like a lot of big aggressive players - Mooney, Brereton, Plugger walks the line. Sometimes they step over it. Its the nature of their aggression. Take it out of them and they wouldn't be half the footballers they are and were. Hall's aggression has contributed to many goals and victories. Its sheer hypocracy to pretend we haven't used it and gained from it. Going the knuckle is over the line. But it doesn't change the fact that these kind of players tread it every time they take the field. Plugger Lockett throttled Mick Martyn and said to him "How does it feel to die in front of 40,000 people". Very witty but very violent.
Since that incident he owed it to his teammates and coach to stay out of trouble. The Rutten hit wasn't that big if it was an isolated incident but it wasn't.
I mean is it really that hard to not punch an opponent for no reason on the football field??????
It's not much to ask but he just couldnt help himself and the team is poorer as a result
The liability he places on the team is that when he sees the red mist, we effectively play 1 man short, it's similar to the effect Fevola has on the Blues and it is a massive negative.
Having played football with hotheads before it is extremely disheartening when youre busting your gut and 1 player lets the team down with undisciplined acts. Additionaly, there's nothing better for an opposition team then to see an opponent lose their cool, its a psychological boost as you know you've got them on toastComment

Don't disagree with the points you made there, but Hall crossed the line with the king hit on staker which was one of the more disgraceful efforts i have seen on the football field.

He should retire - hopefully gracefully - after a great career.
He would probably not have been permitted to play in '05 if the current football regime was in place, and then yes, the coach and his teammates would have had to learn new trick to feed a newly structured forward line - as they will, again, need to do for the next 2 weeks.
It is not suiting him, and probably not suiting the team.Comment

You know when you hate your job? You're trying to get psyched. "Today's the day I'm going to get it right, make a difference, come out on top". You turn up and everyone you work with gives you the @@@@s. Your clients (opposition) just piss you off with their demands and let's not mention the regulators that keep changing the legislation!

Love the bloke but can't see him staying. I think he's over it and sadly the feeling is mutual. It's not a case of throwing money at him or giving him a promotion. What needs to change to make Baz a happy player? I can't work it out.Last edited by Lucky Knickers; 4 July 2009, 05:46 AM.Comment

Hally should just pull his head in a fraction, fair dinkum he knocks blokes over by looking at them, remember that Port Adelaide game where he flinched at a bloke and down he went? He is a very fit man, and could probably play possibly 2 more years, question is can we provide him with a midfield that can deliver the ball in a way that he gets a fair crack at it. Probably a minor point would be can he ever expect a fair suck of the savaloy from the umpires? I'd love to see career stats on his frees for and against. Stack themm upo against Wayne Carey, nothing more than a thug with a nice haircut, see what they look like, I'm willing to bet Hally comes off second best. I think he's hard domne by, but in part brought it on himself. In the end, he's our best forward, why would we sackhim?
