For anyone who watched the game, did it seem as if not having Hall out there made a big difference?Comment
-
Without Hall we were looking for clever set up and more running into the forward line. Almost no forward 50 marks today !
Now against any middle / top team that will stop us but we got away with it against North.
Solid Game - Bird stepped up in the last quarter.
Every time Jolly left the ground we lost the sequence of clearances.
Excellent game from him today.Comment

This game does not bode well for the future of Hall.
Fact - we don't need him.
On a more positive note, from what I saw before my stream got cut off, Barlow did well - hardened up, active, moved around a lot and presented and kicked well. Good on the kid. I hope he can lock down the lead up full forward role.
ROK and Kirk in everything. After a slow start, ROK is really playing well as a midfielder.
Reg - well done. I am a believer and I think he is just going to get better and better. He has talent and despite the odd brain fart, is starting to rack up some impressive numbers as a link man whilst shutting down some good players.
Vez - along with Barlow gave our forward line more movement and more dynamism. I reckon having Hall out also bought MOL into the game as the forward line was less predictable and there was more space for MOL to lead into (although he did tend to lead into the pockets).
Sounds like Birdy did his best in the last quarter. Even up until then he showed his class on several occasions with deft hands in tight places.
Shaw good but his ping in the second quarter when he had two guys unmarked in front of goal was extraordinarily poor. I hope he learns from that.
Overall, a good team effort, albeit at home against only meagre opposition.
On another note - we've been worried about forwards, but here we are all of a sudden with White kicking 8 in the reserves, Cheese maybe finding his place at full forward, Vez looking good, Goodes playing more time up forward and Johnstone the next big thing.
With Hannebury supposedly going to be special and Bird, Jack playing well in the 1sts and Schmidt coming back into good form in the 2's, where does that leave Moore and Buchanen?
I hope that in next year's draft we get a really top shelf young KPP defender. He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

Veszpremi was fantastic today, and prob could have kicked a couple more if it wasn't for umpie decisions. His work rate, tackling, toughness, kicking, was very good. Barlow was good, so was Bird, who essentially won us the game. Crouch............everyone wanted him out and yet he provided the enthusiasm and energy from the backline and helped us to win. Kirk, MOL won us the game overall. Grundy easily had his best game this season, though I was baffled by the decision not to send him into the forward line. Even Richards was good. Very happy overall. If it wasn't for the bad umpire decisions we prob would have won by more.Comment

Boy did we need that. Didn't fade in the last quarter.
Should have won by more. Had at least 15 more inside 50s and a lot more possession.
Good to see young guys like Bird, Vespa and Barlow standing up, MOL doing his magic tricks, ROK, Kirk, Shaw getting a ton of possession.
We're not playing too badly, just unable to win on the road and giving up the lead too easily. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Even though we won, and most of your other assessments were pretty much on the money. We missed Hall.Comment

O'Keefe played as good a midfield game as you would see. Why on earth he hasn't been our prime mover in the guts for seasons is beyond me. Recruited as a gun midfielder and captain of Calder Cannons.
I thought Bird struggled up until 3 quarter time but that was something of a last quarter. More game time for mine.
Kirk and Shaw were outstanding and Grundy has now shown he is defender.
Vespremi - is he an outstanding player or what.Comment

I have not seen a lot of footy this year and only saw the second half today but thought we looked like a team on the rebuild. I like Shaw and Grundy. Thought Bird showed himself to be a match winner, Vez should be given number 2 and MOL showed enough to make me pleased he is seeing out the season. Well done boys, good win.Comment

Also Grundy had 9 scoring assists. The most of any player on the ground (according to SEN). Also had mark of the game with his one hander, until Firrito marked in front of/over Crouch.
Veszpremi is looking good in only his 2nd game back for the year.
His goal from the boundary was something special. Also his almost lind kick into the goal square which reaulted in a goal, was another great effort.
We'll pass on his poor kick into the centre sqaure though.
Barlow is improving and getting more touches, but needs to think more about his disposals, rather than just bang it on the boot.Comment

Quick question. If a player goes off due to the blood rule is their replacement allowed onto the ground before they go off?
Because when the Roos player went off his replacement was on the ground before he went off.
Great win by the guys. 1 win outside 8.Comment
