Hall Quits

I agree with everyone that it's a sad way to go out. Im definite that Barry Hall has brought us all some of our best memories.
But I don't think the club handled it poorly. Ultimately, it looks like he has finally run out of chances. If he played on next year and got reported again at some stage, and the club said "that's it", I'm sure we'd still hear people saying that he has been forced out, handle poorly, etc.
On a positive note, even though it's sad to see Barry leave so abruptly, I think it is not so bad that we can get this time to groom someone into a new full forward, ahead of 'schedule'. Who cares if there's no one to fill his spot immediately? I think it's great seeing the development. End rant.Comment

Can't help thinking it's a bit premature. No decision had to be made at all this week, or even next.
Fear for him that he won't find another club to play at next year, and his career definitely deserves to be remember other than for ending this way. And sad that he won't be around to celebrate Magic's major milestone next month, given what a great partnership they forged.Comment

Boooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooooo!
Sad day for Hall and us all. Love the bloke. Is a legend of the club forever.
No more Barry Hall Hall!Comment

The Australian is reporting he's quit the game.
Barry Hall to end AFL career | The Australian
Could just be a quick article from a harried sub-ed (ie, wrong interpretation of events), or it might be that he's pulled the pin on AFL full stop, not just the Swans.
Either way, sad. An in-control Hall still had a bit to offer, but an in-control Hall was no longer on offer. This is the only way it could go really.
Still luv him though - thanks for the memories!Comment

I just hope the media dont put the boots in...
As there is always a massive overeation from them.
Hope they pay tribute to what he accomplished and what he brought to the club and vice versa...
No matter what they say eh will always be a premiership captain....which is more than what most of those hacks will ever achieve.Comment

A shame but no huge surprise. Was expecting him to go though I had a sentimental hope he might stay around the club to teach young ones how to bust packs, kick pressure goals, scare the crap out of defenders, drop chest marks, etc.
Don't have any problem with the club handling of this. It's difficult to impart discipline to junior players if seniors breach it at will. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Oh dear...........hope he is still at the Hall of Fame dinner so I can get an autograph.
Sad...but he reminds me of the naughty kids here at school..you can only give them so many chances."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

Agree about your "Magic" reference.Comment

A very sad day.
But i wonder, are the Swans the club most likely to pick him up next year?
I cant see Baz being picked up by the Dogs. The only other team, besides the Swans crying out for a key forward is Melbourne, and I dont see how he helps them for what would surely be only a one year association, as they try to rebuild.
He gets an extended break, we get to play more kids without speculation over Baz's future. Seems like a win-win to me.
Edit: Why would he want all the extra media attention by making a move to Melbourne anyway. I can't see it happening. We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty.Comment

Very, very selfish decision from a self-confessed 'team man'. Tige was bad enough, but now this?
I barrack for the Swans as a team and a club, and I hate any player that starts sooking, drops his bundle and leaves the team in the lurch. Where is the dedication. Where is the professionalism?
Still, if he's going to do it, it may as well be this year. The list is going through a true & rapid generational change.
I'll remember Barry as a 50/50 player -- half really good, half really bad. Unfortunately I can't forget him failing to kick a goal in the 06 GF. I don't think he could either, and was never the same player after that.To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!Comment

Congratulations to Barry - a brave decision, and the right one. In the end, the issue of trust was paramount.
A sad way for it to finish, but in years to come we will remember the champion player of 2001-6. The goal in the last quarter of the 05 GF is still seared in my memory. We would not have won the flag without him.Comment

Pleased that there will be an opportunity to say thanks for the memories on Sat. game, (if story is true).
I hope there is only goodwill for the big fella, he has given so many thrilling moments. Will be sooo missed. God, no BBBB or MOLComment
