(Said in all due respect to all female truckies who could probably kick my ass)..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Well (as a woman) I pretty much agree with what most here have said in that that whilst Kelli knows her stuff and put in a good effort - the voice needs alot of work.
Now I'm not expecting her to sound like a ABC female newsreader after 20 lessons with Professor Henry Higgins, but I'm afraid that whilst men can get away with quite a thick Australian accent in commentary, women just cant.
I even find Liz Ellis's voice a bit grating at times, but she certainly has first hand knowledge about netball and puts her commentary across really well (despite it all), where as Luke Darcy doesnt have a clue, but he provides some damned nice eye candy for we laydees!!(and thats put forward in the nicest possible way)
However, the best female sports commentator was by far Anne Seargent - she had a wonderful voice and her diction was spot on.
Maybe its just something we have to get used too, but have a few elocution lessons Kelli and try not to sound so blokey - then you may just crack the glass dressing shed ceiling!Last edited by Wardy; 27 July 2009, 11:16 AM.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

My biggest criticism would be that she calls in a style not suited to TV, but suited to radio which is calling every player and movement of the ball. On radio this works as you need to give the listener a feel for whats going on, but on TV, when you can see it for yourself the style needs to be a bit different.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment

Good point there too - she must have been really nervous as well. I guess we have an accent that has that nasal twang about it.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I only saw parts of the game but she didn't strike me as significantly worse than several of the males who get regular gigs, have lots more practice, but still are incapable of anything more than dribble.Comment

Anything beats Dwayne Russell on Fox. Ergo Kelli is not the worst TV caller going around.10100111001 ;-)Comment

Just saw a photo of Kelli on the Channel 10 website and would like to change my opinion. She has excellent potential as a commentator...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Pru Goward, Howard's 'special' minister for women (or something like that), once said that all women should have elocution lessons in order to learn to pitch their voices deeper and make them more "listenable" to men.
Good on her for having a go and living her dream. It's awesome to see a woman get a shot and have a chance in a traditional male field - it can't have been easy to get people to take her seriously. There's nothing wrong with her footy knowledge and I quite like that she doesn't crap on with a big wank fest that some of the ex-players who commentate do.Last edited by Lucky Knickers; 27 July 2009, 09:01 PM.Comment

Kelli went Ok, she'll get the hang of it, the girls got guts having a go at this, this is healthy for the code, women goal umpys, women on the boards, a female central ump would be cool, be good to see Barry Hall's Mum umpiring any time soon.

Well perhaps I have changed my mind on young Kelli - I only heard bits and peices last week but on Saturday I watched the Geelong match for the duration. I have to admit though that I found myself flicking from that game to the match on Foxtel just so as I didn't have to listen to her.
I know its bad, but I was hoping, in the beginning and being supportive of a fellow sheila, that she might have lightened up on the blokiness and cut down the cliches's - alas I was wrong.
Kelli ! I said Pet, I said luv, I said pet, I said Please, PLEASE have some elocution lessons, buy yourself a Vicks nasal inhaler & cut down on the cliches - you know it makes sense!
