I am pumped for the Saints game!

Yes we probably will not make finals, yes our form was ordinary against Melbourne but for some strange reason I feel genuinely excited about this Saturday night's game against the Saints.

I just have a sneaky feeling that the Swans will inflict the first loss of the year on the Sainters.

Hopefully we will get a 30,000k crowd or there abouts.

Anyone else looking forward to Saturday's game?

We will win. I think the melbourne game was one of those games where, we thought we were going to win, we knew they would tank and therefore we wouldn't play to our best. Plus the ground was very slippery and it started to rain later on. I think if we drop some of the underperformers (ablett, soz to thornton and pyke) and we should be good. Will prob only need one ruckman seeing as they will prob only have one as well (Mc Evoy isn't that good). If we make the right ins, and play to our best I can see us scrapping a win by 3-5 points. Its just one of those games.

I remember a game in 2000 when Essendon were going through the season undefeated. They were at their all conquering best smashing teams and We played them at the SCG with little chance to get within 6 goals as we were poor that year. The game was played in the wet and we were either in front or just behind at 3qtr time only to just lose by a couple of goals.

We didn't get the chocolates but we gave ourselves a shot and the Swans seem to find that extra oomph when the chips are against them.

I am excited by the fact that we 'could' be the first team to stop their unbeaten run and it would be unreal, but I just cant see it unfortuneatley. I dont think we will be blown away though like these so-called 'experts' will no doubt predict.

We have two chances of keeping up with them on Sat. night, and both of them are well recognised as not being particularly likely!!!

St Kilda / Sydney matches of late have been low scoring and close. You only need to look at Round 1, which time has revealed as one of the few times this year St Kilda has been really challenged. At the SCG, I'm expecting another close one.

I think it's more their excellent positional play in defence that makes their game fast. You'll probably find the Dogs have faster runners but that's irrelevant if they don't win the ball and suddenly there's a Saint in space and another alone in his forward 50.

The Dogs tried to play their flowing game and were made to look very second rate. On the other hand, the Dees scragged and manned up against the superior players of the Swans and would have got the win if they'd kicked straighter. So chances are the Swans may get closer to the Saints than the Dogs. In Q1 yesterday I was hoping we'd get a percentage boost with a 100 point win. In Q4 I was hoping the Dees would keep missing so we'd keep in front. My bet is that this game will be similarly ugly and Saints fans will hate it but we won't get blown away and the Saints may get frustrated enough to get us an unlikely win.

Or we can try to use our superior skills to simply outscore them and we may be able to set a record losing score.

Do some form lines - what happened to adelaide ? what happened to the bulldogs ? What happened to geelong ? And have you seen what they did to those teams ?

How competitive were we against these sides (and yes we can all say we were ahead at halftime against adelaide, and yes all were away/not at the SCG but lets be honest with ourselves hey) ?

We will get well pumped. But as those who are half full people on this site say - this is all about watching the next gen and seeing how they go.

And lost 65 to 80 with an equal number of scoring shots (20)? The Crows only managed 13 to 30 scoring shots and the Dogs 16 to 26. In fact only Carlton and the Cats have got as close to the Saints as the Swans have.

On form you'd expect a caning but Saturday night is our 2009 Grand Final.

I'm really looking forward to the game for a number of reasons:

1. No pressure on the Swans. (Shock horror! Sydney will not be playing Finals footy in 2009)

2. Good to see a truly champion team in action. (Isn't it amazing that of all the 1897 Foundation clubs, St Kilda could end up being the very first to go through a season undefeated! They have won just one flag in 112 seasons, and have the worst record of all of the original 8 clubs, including Fitzroy)

3. You never never know. Round 11 2004 against St Kilda rings a bell. Also, that near win against the mighty 2000 Bombers, and the wins against Carlton back in Round 8 1995, and against the Eagles in Round 17 in 2005. All SCG games against much more fancy teams at that time. The thing is, the St Kilda players might be getting a bit mentally tired, and are due for a lapse in mental fitness.

4. Finally, looking forward to the Swans' kids further developing, Bird, White, Veszpremi, Pike, Hannebery, Jack, Smith

why is it impossible to look forward to see my team play but still have no expectation of winning (other than if they start with 16 and lose a player a quarter)

I'll be happy if we can get the ball over halfway - something that for two quarters down here and with a better side than we will put out this weekend - we didn't look like doing.
