Our shopping list: Luke Ball, Brian Lake and more

As predicted by RWO, Brian Lake is on the Swans end-of-year shopping list, as is Luke Ball who's in dispute with the Saints, West Coast ruck Mark Seaby and Josh Kennedy at Hawthorn.

This story estimates Sydney will have an extra $2m to spend after senior retirements this year.

+ $800k that no other club gets due to the cost of living. That is a joke!

Looks like he's just thought of a bunch of uncontracted players and then just assumed that we're interested.

Take no notice, gets very little right Greg Denham.

        Successful troll is successful.

Sydney is one of the most expensive cities to live in the world, though it has slipped slightly in the Mercer Survey due to the Australian Dollar. Melbourne, whilst very nice and full of culture, does not compare with Sydney in these terms. Most Sydney-siders could move to Melbourne and no longer have a large mortgage, given the profit from selling in Sydney and buying down south.

Your kidding. Sydney is more expensive to live in than Melbourne and much more than Adelaide.

If I am a southern states based player, there is little attraction in going to Sydney if for the same salary I can afford to live better in Melbourne or Adelaide (where I am probably also more comfortable as I grew up there).

The only reason the swans have money to spend that they have lost or are about to lose a heap of senior , well paid players including one B Hall.

In any respect, Sydney seem to be leaked as the possible home of any out of contract player that emerges through the year. Southern states based managers talking up their players prosepcts for current contract negotiations if you ask me.

I've read this story already this morning as well as another one somewhere with Roos saying he's heard the rumours about the Swans chasing Lake or Ball, but we'd be more interested in some outside run.

Why? Everything in sydney is more expensive.Look at housing for starters if you don't want to drive for an hour to get to training. Ever bought a cup of coffee in sydney..then there's public transport..you gotta get a taxi everywhereI could go on. The $800,000 is certainly justified if the AFL is concerned about AFL in NSW and equity

But did you see that Eddie Maguire is now on our side? IF Eddie thinks Sydney is expensive and deserves a topup, who are we to disagree?

If North had taken the West Sydney option, you would have got the annual AFL bonus too.

With the last relatively uncompromised draft this year for probably 2 years it's not the time to go shopping. I think we'll hold on to our $2m spending room and go shopping in 2010/11.

Whilst yes, we would have room in the Cap, we dont have as much room in the bank!!!

Its all easier said than done to get an uncontracted player in the trade period.

The Ryan O'Keefe saga last year demonstrated how hard it is to get a trade.

We also had the the same problem in post season 2005, in trying to get Spida from a trade from Hawthorn. I have no a shadow of doubt that if Sydney had got Spida for season 2006. they would have won back-to-back premierships.

Bank has nothing to do with it, the AFL funds the TPP maximum for each club through their annual distrubution. The AFL also mandate that we must spend at least 92.5% of the TPP to stop clubs hording the annual distriubution for other reasons.

The $$$$ the Roos get from the competitive balance fund is a joke.

The difference in the COL between Sydney & Melb is factual.

The competitive balance fund is in place because the Kangas are a registered charity.

800,000 for a list of 46 players equates to an extra $330 per week per player or $48 per day.
I think that is a reasonable estimate of the cost of living differences between Sydney and it's counterparts.
This is the oldest smelliest red herring around.
