Drafting should always be best available and not for a specific position.

If you have the luxury of similar ability but KP or midfielder then yes go for KP, but indications are that Butcher is the only 1st round tall worthy this year and he is very unlikely to still be available at either 7 or 8.

There is alot of talk around that Butcher will go either two or three. However alot of players are re rated after the draft camp and I believe this year clubs are looking out for players who can kick the ball well.

No way Butcher will fall all the way through to us its conceivable that he could fall to 4 or 5 but not 7 or 8.

Nobody would have guessed Rich would fall all the way to 7th last year, but he did.

By the way, I've heard good things about a bloke called Talia. Apparently he's only 79 kilos, but is 105 cm and doing really well. Ever since Tom Hawkins came to Geelong and has flopped a bit, it's got me thinking we should be wary of blokes that dominate u18 level because they're just big. I'd rather get a bloke who's doing well as a stick, because it sugggests that once he puts on kilos he'll be even better. If we went for him with a second rounder or something (provided Butcher didn't last, and we went for a smaller player), that could really work.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I just don't see Barlow as a long term forward solution.

Not as a KP forward but certainly as a roaming HF, allowing ROK to continue as a starting midfielder next year.

This allows Barlow to use his strength, running to suit his game style and to hopefully work over his opponents both ways.

I'm also not completely sold on Barlow - was very annoyed he was in the team a few weeks ago when he was playing softly - not going in to contest and just sort of roaming but he's really picked up int he last few weeks ... will be interesting to see if he can improve his work rate and effort next year ...

I am with you Alison, however I think he will be a 4 year project, with bright spots, something like Lewie. They will keep him because he can get around the ground and he actually doesn't seem to get tackled all that often (ok no comments that he didn't have the ball, I know.....but even so). The thing is he is a motza in hardness against where he was at the start of the year, so I have faith that there is more.

We must not forget we also have Lewis Johnson to come back. He is a unit, and he is quick and he reads the play well.

Yep VERY excited to see Johnston ... Hanners, Johnston, Vesz, Meredith all running around together is a very exciting prospect - and it will be good to see what Campbell Heath can do too!!

I do, he is perfect for Ryans old role as a half forward flanker moving up to the wing he is big quick, fit and can kick some seering passes (though has the odd clanger). He seems a confidence player though. I honestly think he will grow into a very good player and prove a few people wrong a la McHack

                            I agree.
His kicking is classy. When he's on his skills are top notch.

Do we need to target anyone next year?

I can't see any obvious holes in the team at the moment. Perhaps fast, outside midfielders, but we have a few youngsters we're still trying out.

We don't have a lot to trade with, so I would think that next year we just draft the best players we can get with our picks, not worry about trades and spend another year developing the list and see what comes out of it.

With Goodes playing CHF much further up the ground than BBBH did - don't see a need for this role, especially at the SCG.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.
