What sports does this legislation cover? I do recall earlier this year One HD showing a netball game while normal TEN was showing AFL.

I blame the AFL, not for the scheduling but for the broadcasting agreement. The AFL rights are the most sought after product in the country. When Andrew sat down at the table it should have been non negotiable that the Sydney swans would be broadcast live into NSW homes every week. Sure the AFL can help by not putting it up against friday night rugby league, but thats where it should end. In my opinion channel 10 should have the exclusive rights to all swans, lions, CG and GWS games. Channels 7 and 9 would delay the telecast of the grand final if they thought that they could pull a few more viewers with something else.

You can multichannel but only in HD, hence why the netball that was being shot in HD for One could be shown.

Most AFL games at the momment are SD and C7 have not to my knowledge broadcast in native 1080i any AFL games so would not be able to do this as once off at this stage, plus they do not even have their seperate HD channel up and running yet anyway.

Yep, they stuffed up when they accpeted the C9 deal initially not thinking that C7 or C10 would match it.

When the did, all C7 and C10 had to do was offer the same terms which basically meant the AFL was stuffed when it came to scheduling games with no flexibility,

Hence why they can't move the round 22 games to suit the first week of the finals.

            The bottom line...it's bull@@@@.

They either do it live or hand it to Fox to do on 518 or whatever channel Fox has available.

Then show the SD AFL games on the HD channel. Maybe I'm missing something here, but it shouldn't be this complicated, outdated legislation or not.

You can't that is not allowed in the legislation, Foxtel would have a gigantic hissy fit if they allowed at this stage the FTA's to pure multi channel.

It will come, but first the FTA's will have to be willing to give up the sport anti-siphoning list.

At this stage no one (including the Federal Government) are really sure if they want to do that as it could end up with Foxtel or it's associated Pay TV content partners owning all the sporting rights in this country.

It just ain't that simple as flicking on a switch as you think.

Maybe we are asking too much of c7?? Why would we want to see our team live in their home state?? Seriously, it is free to air TV so we dont pay for it so what right do we have to complain... We should feel lucky that they are showing it at all.

To cut their losses, they will can the footy altogether and after the V8s go straight to that Paul Mercurio garbage thats been on lately. The blokes a bloody dancer what does he know about cooking!!

It just shows the AFL/c7 contempt for their fans/customers. If you had to pay for c7 like it was fox, you tell them to bash it in their whatsie after 5mins of viewing.

Why would Foxtel complain about Channel 7 using an HD channel though? It's not like they'd be showing both games, one a Foxtel retransmission. If Channel 7 have bought the rights to one game, they should be able to show it live on one of their channels.

EDIT: By the way, if it would keep it within the boundaries of the laws, couldn't they show both the delayed and shortened telecast at 3, as they do now, and telecast it live and complete on the digital or HD channel?

I don't mind so much that it's not live; it's the fact that the first half is a highlights package that pisses me off.

At least we get to see the mighty Melbourne Demons take on the Carlton blues live on saturday afternoon in a match that will shape the finals and give us a look at a what should be the grand final match up in that last week of september!

Any chance of streaming ??? Thats so funny that you get it live Now THAT is ridiculous! If anyone can find anyone who will be streaming the game live it would be much appreciated. What a way for NSW to promote AFL along with delayed telecasts on the weekend, the 2 inchs they give us in the Telegraph today is also a joke. So along with paying membership, buying digital tv, paying for foxtel sport chanels, increasing my download limit, I think next year I have to start special ordering the Sun.
