Could W. Carey be an assistant at the swans in 2010?

No-one would have dared to. And we gave him lots of cuddles and he wasn't one anymore.

Plugger was before this innovative articulate policy.
But I can't see that the players were his biggest fans after the Caven stuff.
Still, the club saw that Plugger was in the best interest of the club.

      As for Cousins.
I said before the draft last year that every club was stupid for not targeting him.
I'd say that he has been serviceable for the Tigers to say the least.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

My impression on the Cousins decision was that the issue wasn't his past, it was the combination of his age and his hamstrings.
And back on topic, I'd rely on the club to sort out where Carey was; if they felt happy with it, I'd be prepared to see him have a go.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

North pull could draw Carey to Swans coaching ranks as Roos talks up qualities

In fact evidence suggests that great players end up being terrible teachers of the game to young kids as it just came naturally to most of them and lack the skills to teach it.

If we are going to get someone in next year to work with our very young forward line, I would prefer that it be someone capable of teaching such as one of our ex assistant coaches in Jonas or an Alan Richardson type from Essendon who are noted teachers of the game.

Likely to be far more beneficial to our youngsters than hiring someone because they were a champion of the game.

I was thinking along these lines too.

I don't think the evidence suggests great players are either good or bad at teaching others. Matthews won a three-peat as a coach. Roos has been a successful coach. Brisbane clearly have strong belief in Voss' ability and the Pies weren't prepared to let Buckley escape from their grasp. Certainly the latter two are unproven, but they indicate that the powers who appoint coaches don't subscribe to the idea that great players don't make good teachers.

I don't generally watch Footy Classified (or whatever it is called) but I did happen to be vegged in front of the TV on Monday night when it came on. I didn't get the impression Carey was particularly interested in a proper assistant coaching role, but that he wouldn't mind doing some ad hoc work - struck me like something along the lines of the bit of work Silvagni did with LRT a few years back.

Whatever one thinks of Carey's off-field past, he is one of the absolute best forwards to play the game in the last few decades. I certainly wouldn't be upset with the idea of him spending a few hours here and there imparting some wisdom to White and Johnston.

If RWO had a no d*ckhead policy which was based on past stupid behaviour such as peeing on a window, there would be no posts.
Hell, I flashed my ass at a footballer while he was eating dinner with his teammates one night.
It was friggin hilarious at the time (to everyone, including the team mates, but not the actual player) but I'f be out on that alone, forget about the tonnes of other dumb things I've done
3-4 mistakes and counting. And these are off-the-field.
Some were massive breaches of trust. Intentional too.
                  Others were criminal acts.

Far removed from belting a player in the heat of battle. Crimes on the field are dealt with by the league & club but some border on going further ('dickhead' BBBH & Staker).

He's coming to Swans for sure now, isn't he!

EDIT - flashing ass isn't always a criminal offence and is sometimes quite acceptable behavior, even for the 'victim'.

Hall was a dickhead on the field. Lovely guy off it, by all reports.

Yep. Getting Carey as a skills tutor is definitely not be the worst thing the club could ever do.
