I was wondering what we would do when he drifts forward against us - then I realised that we have a player who has shown he can take a mark over Jolly.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
but I don't see us contending in the next few years.
A few years is a long time in football.
Younger players develop and others age.
Team dynamics change very quickly - look at Hawthorn this year.
Personally I see us contending a flag next year.
That is my hope.
It may be unlikely to many, but there is a chance that it will happen.
i hold on to that chance, and that makes my interest in the Swans more valid.
Roos' 5 year plan occurred much earlier than anyone thought possible.
I hate the thought of losing Jolly, and I hate the thought of him going to the Wobbles much much more.
All we can do is the best we can get - hopefully good will come from this.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.
Thats sad that Jolly is going but at the same time its good for us. He has what, 2 years left at being a good ruckman. Pick 14 and a player like Brown or Rusling would do it.
Also it means that currie will finally be able to play. With Currie and maybe someone like Seaby we should be set.
If he wants to go no point keeping a wantaway. Pick 14 and one oftheir young talls like Brown Reid or Dawes should do it
Boom Tish!
Well we don't know what's really going on in Jolls private life, and frankly its none of our business. But Family is Family. His parents and her parents probably want to enjoy their grand children while they are little. The older lass must be getting ready to start school next year. The grandparents themselves may need support. We just don't know. He has put in a lot of work for us and been fantastic. Jolls deserves our loyalty too.
Also its not as though this has never been done before in reverse. Stuey came up with family from Melbourne. And Willo. And Lockett. And Roos. And our other 3 coaches. I cannot accept from other R&Wers that they think this is a disloyalty thing, he has done so much for us and with us. So I think we just have to gently let him go......whaaaa, - not happy Jolls, but resigned.
If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhood
I guess Seaby has as much faith in God as what Roos and Kirk have in Buddhism. So really whats the diff??
So its Ok for Roos & Kirk to bang on about Buddhism but Seaby cant bang on about God?
What Seaby has to say there is indeed "banging on". Kirky and Roosy talk calm, rational good sense. If you want to know the difference between Buddhism and fundamentalist Christianity, just ask a fundamentalist Christian!

Brown can't make their senior team and Rusling can't play more than a couple of quarters before being injured. He makes DOK's durability look like the Stynes of the Melbourne glory years.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

I agree on both players BUT.
Brown had a good first year, poor second. Pretty much every young player goes through that stage. Look at Palmer for Freo. First year awesome, second year was poor up until he got injured. I think we could make into something good. Rusling may not be that durable but when fit is awesome.
We wont get a quality/rising young player from Collingwood. Maybe someone who has showed a bit.
BUT if the Swans are real stingy they will prob ask for 14 plus someone who has real quality.
Collingwood wont be the only team chasing Jolly, so if they offer something lame then we'll happily trade with someone else. We hold the cards here, not Collingwood.
An alternative that also gives us the added pleasure of stuffing the Pies.
Burgoyne may prefer the Hawks, but Port wants pick 9 AND someone of Jordan Lewis' calibre - which is too much for the Hawks. Essendon wants Burgoyne - and is willing apparently to bundle pick 10 and Lovett together. So far, Port will bite at that offer first and easily.
So, the Hawks miss Burgoyne but have another problem in the news today - Robert Campbell has a foot injury that could potentially end his career. That leaves the Hawks needing another quality ruckman (given young Max Bailey also needs another knee reco).
The end result - we say to Jolls, you get to back to your home town; Hawks, you get a ruckman; and for that, we'll take pick 9 and either McGlynn or Kennedy.
Another top 10 pick and a young midfielder fall our way.
Given we can then take a pacy mid and one of the few decent talls inside the top 10, we can relax a bit about giving away our something like a swap of our second round pick for Seaby to WCE, as much as I aint convinced. Particularly if we can get also something worthwhile for Hall (around pick 30) and another pick a bit further down (maybe 40) for Barlow or Buchanan.
As good as I think Jolly is, particularly given our stoppage-based, physical style of play, I'd walk out of trade week happy with that - a new ruckman, two top 10 picks, a young mid, and two/three picks in the 30-40 range (our current one plus the ones for Hall and Bucks or Ed).
Basically Hawthorn has number 9 set on Burgoyne. They're not going to give any more to Port. If Port doesn't agree, Burgoyne will nominate for the ND, and the Hawks will just use pick 9 to pick him up. Don't see any of the other teams using a top 8 pick on Burgoyne. In Pelchen's warped sense of thinking, why should he bother helping Port out in compensation when he knows the maximum he will lose for Burgoyne is pick 9.
